About the album:
Merry Christmas is the first Christmas album, and the fourth studio album, by Mariah Carey. The album features cover versions of popular Christmas tunes and original material. Carey worked with Walter Afanasieff, with whom she wrote all of the original tracks, as well as producing Carey's interpretations of the covered material. The album contains a contemporary holiday theme, and featured "authentic, gospel flavored background vocals." Three singles were released from the album, of which All I Want for Christmas Is You went on to become one of the best-selling singles of all time.

@@gundulpacul3 I think at 3:02 it is a chest E5, it sounds like it is the tonic, an interesting variation from the usual version in which the melody is typically sung on the 3. She does sing a F#5 (the 2) at 3:19 and she makes an octave jump in the whistle to a B6 at (3:23) where does a descending scale to a D#6. Pretty spectacular range, when she starts the song off in the first verse an octave lower, going as low as E3 in chest voice, which is fairly low for a contralto and extremely low for a soprano

And also "criminally underrated" by her I feel especially since before Buttefly. I get the feeling that Mottola was the one who pushed her into using more of her natural voice in the beginning even thought she was still using her falsetto quite a bit. I have this idea that her use of the falsetto was her way of trying to sound like her mother who is a Soprano.

This is vocally PERFECT, obviously, but, I mean, why nobody is talking about the structure of this song. The moments, the climax, the whistle, the gospel choir and the way if fits with Mariah's tones, it's INSANE. This is art.

You are absolutely correct. 1993-1995 is Mariah's Peak. most don't know but 94 is Mariah at her very best. it was the perfect balance of her husky voice of her earlier days and the agility of her daydream era combined with that divine tone of music box era. it is Mariah at her peak

We lost MJ. We lost Whitney. Mariah's one of the last legends we have left. (Yes, I know we still have many living legends still with us, but Mariah deals with the same malicious and vicious taunting from the press and public that Michael and Whitney did in their final years. When they both died, the world realised just how fortunate we all are to have lived while they did.) We have to protect Mariah and look after her, not kick her when she's down. Céline Dion and Mariah have done the two best renditions of O Holy Night. They're both from the same era of music as well. I truly believe that we will never in the existence of mankind have equally powerful voices both breakthrough simultaneously into the mainstream. We are so lucky to have had these amazing vocalists in the 90s. Their music will live on forever.

What makes her vocal performance so epic and her voice so pure with this is song is very simple but overlooked. She is whole heartedly vocally telling a story of an amazing and holy event. The secret is “ she believes these events happened! She didn’t just record a song, The Most High used her to tell the story of how his son/himself came to be here as us in physical form. Jesus must've smiled on her with that voice...my departed mother' favorite Christmas song turned in to an absoluely perfect rendition, as a musician, drummer, keyboardist I couldn't have turned this beautiful song in to a gospel rendition. I'm actually typing this through tears...such an angelic rendition!

oh man this brings me back to 1994 when I first listen to this album (on cassette lol). I was so excited that this song was on there coz it's always been one of my favorite Christmas songs. I swear I was like in some kind of trance from the first note she sang. And the way she sang the word "divine" at 01:38, CHILLS. I swear I replayed that part so much I thought I would pop the tape. And then once she started sing higher after the instrumental part, it was all over. I can't get enough this song.

It’s 2022, and her lower register is still something she should’ve delivered more! Such a contrast to her natural upper register and falsetto choices. Such a vocal bible HERSELF! She has gave us every ability singing has offered!
