This is probably the most soulful stuff i've ever heard Mariah Carey do!! Her earlier stuff is her best and boy she was so gorgeous in the '90s. The Diva's show was in 1998. Man so many bad cats in this stellar band!! The Tenor sax player Lenny Pickett is the band's musical director, still is today.

Pretty sure after Mariah's first album, Carol king really wanted to do a song with her so they were originally meant to do a cover of natural women but Mariah didn't want to because of the love she has for the song and Aretha so they wrote this song instead, took them 1 day to do.

In the late '90s the music channel VH1 brought Mariah, Aretha, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan Shania Twain and Carole King together for a special night. Mariah sang Chain of Fools w/ Aretha and all of them together on You Make Me Feel.

Her first few albums were vocally her best. Vision of Love has a special place in my heart. I remember hearing that for the first time when it came out and being blown away. Her Grammy (or MTV?) performance of VOL is phenomenal. Anytime You Need A Friend from Music Box is a great vocal performance too. When she started her whisper- baby voice on her 2000’s+ albums I was done.

This song is amazing . She started off low and soft like “talk to me, this is so out of hand” .. then by the middle of the song she’s getting frustrated “ tell me tonight!”Then by the end she’s screaming like “ now !” Oh my God ..Amazing ! Love your channel btw

Mariah was originally meant to do a cover of "natural women" with Carol king but Mariah didn't want to because of the respect she has for Aretha and thought the song was already perfect, so they wrote this song instead, that's why it has that Aretha feel to it.

I so much prefer her older material when she actually DID use her lower register, it's so superior to the other end of her range. Every album after Fantasy (and a good bit of the tracks on that album) were pretty awful in my opinion.

Ha moi aussi, c'est parti en sucette après, j'ai totalement décroché et pourtant je la kiffais de ouf, je voulais trop lui rassembler, j'avais tout ses albums même si jaccrochais pas trop, le dernier que j'ai aimé était butterfly mais après c'était plus du tout mon délire... elle perdu sa voix. Elle était si belle avant lol je suis rassuré de savoir qu'il y a des personnes qui pensent comme moi..
