People just don't understand what it is like to struggle from a mental health problem/s. It's an inner battle wherein you would think that you're alone. Other people around you can only say so much.

As a sufferer myself. I'm very pleased someone of her stature has come out. Such a sad world that people have to hide this. The ones who ditch out judgment. Stigma and hate are the ones with the problems. Certainly not me or her.

Every time I feel down and lonely because I have to deal with this illness, I searched for celebrities and successful people who have bipolar and that cheers me up. It gives me hope

Mental health is a terrible problem that doesn't get as much attention as it needs. Psychology and psychiatry are still pretty much just trial-and-error, I hope we can do better.

I have this disorder too. It's a struggle day to day and I feel stigmatized and discriminated against from people that I get to close to and neighbors because I'm different. Sometimes I think that this world is bullshit and is struggle to live in.

Wow I had no idea of this...!!! I also have bipolar disorder and it’s absolutely difficult to feel trapped inside a mind like this, like a runaway train. So inspired that she decided to share this. It takes quite a lot of strength to deal with this illness. Proud of this woman!!! I fear I’ll be 17 years into my diagnosis and still refusing help though.... it’s scary but I’ve found medication to be so soul sucking and I’m just not ready to do that. I watched this the other day when it aired, and I just felt like it was just a tad disrespectful. She is a living legend and a beautiful person. One of the most successful artists of all time. She doesn't get the respect that she deserves. Anyone else get that vibe?

As a Mariah fan, I personally along with many others am not surprised by this news. I just knew something wasn’t right with her actions but you play it off as her being the Superstar she is. I really wish her the best in life, she saved me in so many ways and here she was for all those years going through the same thing.

Don't think this will come as a great surprise to many but it's brave nonetheless. I find it incredibly sad though that she chose to ignore it in fear of jeopardizing her career but I get it because it was very different 20 years speaking out about anything to do with mental health. It's such a painful, frightening and traumatic condition I don't know how she coped unmediated for all of those years but it's a testament to her strength she could of saved herself from so much. I hope anyone suffering in silence can see that amid all the chaos that has consumed her life

I understood how she felt that she wasn't articulated about her mental health. I suspected of her behavior right before she even mentioned of her health since she was diagnosed with it since 2001. But I'm hoping that she'll be able to take control of her life and health.

I love it what a inspirational story I keep that in mind being bipolar diagnosed full blown mania since age 14 now 36 an singer growing up with family the worlds youngest accapelol gospel worlds wide an during that time I got very sick so my stop me being very ill an my sister remained soloists artist so everyone took there professional career in another turn of different directions years later I took my high school diploma an became a llicense cosmetologist single mom with 2005-2019 with two resolutions Shalena Porter day as well as never give up day every October 18 from Boston city council even I'm continuing a single mom because be i choose to be since then god came on the winning side giving me a remarkable unique gift with hands that picks up everything automatically none stop an also very stable from years an I thank God for that.

What they don’t realize is it could happen to them at ANY point down the road to THEM or someone extremely close to them that they never would have thought. I suffer alone, with no meds and it really sucks.

However, I do notice often tht she always seems disconnected when she would engage w/the audience. Whether taking pictures or just having conversation within an interview....She never seems present. I never understood why people gave her a bad time 2001 for what was considered "erratic behaviors". I saw the clips (like that one with the mic and the one with the ice cream) and I was wondering : "what's the big deal?" There was nothing erratic about it. Whitney did so much worse on a daily basis. Why pick on Mariah? Maybe because she is so perfect, people need to knock her down.
