Back in the the when her albums were released i used to go to Sam goody, and have them order the albums from which I saw her credit samples in the liner notes of each cassette tape. I actually enjoyed every one of them and learned more songs by each of those artists. The Tom Tom Club album was my favorite discovery and I still enjoy it revisiting it. Although on the Emotions album on the credits on ‘can’t let go’ there was nothing listed and she was sued for not giving credit to the song which was not Keith sweat. I can’t remember what it was, but it was definitely not the song she use for her make it last remix years and years later. But nowadays people say she use that sample for both.

Great use of sampling. Girl really loves her 70s and 80s Soul/Funk/R&B and 90s Hip-Hop. The couple of samples that really surprised me were the Bring Me the Horizon song and Rod Stewart song (all this time I never even connected Subtle Invitation to DYTIS because it's quite a hidden interpolation thanks to the completely different melody). Also, I didn't notice Aretha is in It's A Wrap because she's pitched.

You’re wrong. Mariah Carey IS a musician. Walter Afanasieff, her professional music partner and collaborator called her a “Top Line Writer.” This means that she can write lyrics and melodies off the top of her head in the studio. She writes 85-90% of her music, with the exception of her covers and her ad-lIbbed homages. She is classically trained and has perfect pitch. She is responsible for the influence of the R&B and Hip-Hop crossover. She has chosen to make her voice her instrument and primary focus. Just because you don’t play a musical instrument does not mean that you’re not a musician.
