The fact that she was struggling with bipolar depression 5 years prior to the release of this but came back ultra STRONG with this insane club hit, "We Belong Together" & "Shake It Off" - goes to show no matter the storms & hurdles you must and will always persevere through the darkest times. And Mariah proved just that. Shutting up critics with her 2005 multi-platinum seller "Emancipation of Mimi" which featured this and the aforementioned award-winning hits. It was def talk of the decade regarding her mega comeback. Like she never left. Love this iconic queen

@GameboyShavis

Actually it’s “We belong together” is what really lunched her career. Because coming from what comment I saw from It’s like that live performance video, when this came out people still consider her as an has always been a flop, which makes the radio stations be afraid to put this on air. When she debut “We belong together” two months after and the album a month after that, is letting you know that Mariah is coming back and she means it. Since “We Belong together” hit the charts it was a great way to re-launch her career and re-invent herself.

"She really blew people away." - a quote from a TV special regarding Mariah Carey's re-emergence during TEOM era. And I have to tell you she really did. The first Mariah Carey album that I ever bought was the Rainbow album when I was seven. I remember the Glitter era, and I bought the Charmbracelet album, so I was already a fan of hers. But I remember one day in early 2005, my mom and I had just got in the car and were going down our street when "It's Like That" came on the radio. We literally said, "This is Mariah Carey?!" We were literally blown away. Soon after this I became a lamb. I think The Emancipation of Mimi era is the strongest era for a female music artist ever. There was something so innately present and effortless about it. It wasn't based off any gimmicks--fancy dance moves, music trends, overt sex appeal, etc.--but grounded in Mariah Carey's undeniable and divine talents of singing and songwriting, her persona and artistry. It was visionary.

Aaron Thompson Well, with news reports coming out now that divorce papers were officially filed last month, it really is a new chapter for her and a clean break. Although I know she is heartbroken, as her parents also divorced when she was three, and it does sadden me greatly, divorcing Nick Cannon is truly the best thing she can do at this point in her life, personally and commercially imo. And judging by her appearance on Ellen, she seems to be in the best spirits she has been in, in a while. Mariah will come out stronger than ever. Mariah Carey is a survivor, in the words of Barbara Walters. And I love her endlessly for it. #L4L

If there's a Mariah Carey's single that really deserved the #1 spot and a big streaming radio success it's this one.

I lived this era close by. I am Brazlian and was in my au pair year in 2005 in the US. I went to the good morning america album release show case in NYC and omg Ill never forget it and later on I went to the recording of DIVAS lives of that year. I had never thought in my life Id see Mariah CArey. this album is so special to me. In times square, after the show, I kept waiting to see if Id see her but only saw Trey Lorenz, who was very nice and let me take a pic with her ( a very bad one by the way, cameras were terrible back then). One of her bodyguards, the one I recognized from the photos and videos, was walking by and I tried to ask about her and omg he was sooooo rude, he was like " I am on my break" and left his hand kinda like stop right there. it broke my heart, I started crying, I was too emotional. After I went to a CD store and bought the album, the seller was so nice, he was like " I can see you are a huge fan" and mine again was playing in the background, oh what a day, what a day. She distributed some posters and the candy hot tamale.she used to say hot tamale a lot when this song came out. I think I still have the poster somewhere. memories, memories.

The song that started a big big super big comeback from Mariah, when all the critics and haters already count her out, she came back swinging, and slayed every one, it's as if she says, the Number 1 hitmaker is still here, hold my tea and i will rule the whole 2005!!!
