She is in fine eccentric and expressive voice here. Her music and voice combined tells a compelling story that's greater than a hundred "pop divas" who aren't half as interesting or heartfelt.

Hiram Bullock (R.I.P.) on guitar and The Great Marcus Miller on bass... man that's some talent backing her up.

I found an old notebook where I kept a log of all my VHS tapes on which I recorded the TV appearances of the musical artists I love. I saw an entry for this performance, and since I got rid of my tapes years ago, I wondered if this was online and here it is! Thank you so much for this memory.

The album she's talking about recording at the beginning never came about, only a couple of songs ever surfaced. Isolation, A Waste of Time and Conversations on a Bar Stool

People here saying there’s nothing musical about this or whatever… that she lost her voice… LOL, get real. Art is not for everyone. Marianne is THE GOAT, she pours a life experience into her work that is incomprehensible to the surface listener. Get ears.

I disagree. Her Voice is expressive and stunning here. Her "tears go by" days weren't nearly as provocative imho.

MrHavok29 (J.Har) if you look close you can tell by the way the musians slightly twitch and flutter in response to her every crack and drop. I know the embarrassment being a musician..

She looks wasted. lol Watch her eyes. They aren't in focus....

Her eyes are sparkling and she looks genuinely excited to be performing. I saw her live in Chicago years later and was blown away by what an excellent and experienced trooper she really is.

I respectfully disagree. There was a time when she had a truly great voice at one time. Those 80s TV appearances, such as this one and SNL really demonstrated how much of a toll too much living took on her vocal chords. Contast this Sanborn show video with this one from a couple decades earlier: watch?v=u8Ey6sJJyZo

Oh my god, there is nothing musical about this. They should have just cut the mic and let the audience hear the generic soft jazz background
