Marie Durand: Imprisoned but Free

Marie Durand was 15 years old when she was imprisoned in the Tower of Constance in France. Her crime was having a brother who was a Protestant minister. She was promised freedom if she denied her faith in the Bible and its teachings. She only had to say one French word - “J’abjure” - “I deny.” But her faith was more import to her than her freedom. She simply desired to live and worship according to her conscience, and the Bible she loved. As you watch this program, you will discover the terrible results of rejecting the Bible and dismissing God’s law. You’ll discover how the promise of liberty, equality and fraternity turned into rule by the guillotine.

You are an exeptionally gifted disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, able to communicate His living truth in a convincing - rational and passionate - way. Yes, His light shines in the darkness. Let us go on passing His light around us. Marie's "récister", such a wonderful attitude for us too, to follow in the paths of her - and our - Lord.

Marie Durand, what would you yourself think about the revolutionary outburst in the Parisian convents, I am thinking of the castigations of the daughters of Saint-Vincent de Paul on April 9, 1791, where sisters so devoted to charitable causes could not put up any resistance to the squads of shrews who have come to pour out all their hatred on them. You, Marie Durand, you had a knight of the order of the Holy Spirit to come to your aid, but they were left to fend for themselves in the face of revolutionary hatred and cowardice, and some would die on the spot after being flogged most vilely in the world. PS: Marie Durand is born the July 15, 1711 and was imprisoned in 1730, so she was 19 years old.
