I do not think there is a singer who brings this much emotion, passion and effort into his art as much as Hogarth does. Fish was amazing, but I feel Hogarth has taken his art to another level. It certainly helps to be surrounded by incredible musicians. I never get tired of listening to Marillion.

@@Dudemon-1 he certainly is still using his voice teally well FEAR when he sings Fuck Everone And Run in the New Kings suite still packs a punch! I love his voice it is powerful and emotional and h himself is a great guy always striving for new things. The day they stop doing that is when they should stop. I.have lived since 1985. And when h took over I liked them even more because they were acting as a unit which was dearly lacking in Live At Lorely ( IMHO)

Welcome to Marillion. I think you've started with two real high points, but there is much in the band's catalogue that's equally satisfying. I think the moment here when Steve Rothery's solo comes in on Falling From the Moon is one of the most sublime moments in music. For a contrast next time maybe try The Space or King or Out of this World.

IMHO, the reason people like (LOVE) Marillion is that they are not in any way out just recycling their old stuff, for old fans, and for bored musicians... They consistently create new music, putting out a new album every two years or so, and while some of it is lighter, the vast majority of it is beyond deep. Of all the bands I've loved in my life, these guys stay at the top BECAUSE of the lyrics, in which you can find real life stories, written really well. (Partial bit of the long article...) "Out of This World" about the loss of the Bluebird (From the Times: "'Bluebird' Donald Malcolm Campbell (1921-1967) set water speed records of 202.32 mph (1955), 276.33 (1964). In a jet-powered automobile, he set the land speed record of 403.1 mph (1964)...Campbell was said to be obsessed with regaining the water speed record after losing it in 1965. In 1967, against the advice of his racing team, Campbell took Bluebird II out on to Coniston Water in the Cumbrian Lake District... Although only slight, the waves on the lake were sufficient to flip his craft into the air, killing Campbell. In March 2001, Bluebird was raised from the murky waters. A Times article dated Friday March 9th 2001, reveals that Marillion played a key part in the recovery... Found here: " marillionations.blogspot.com/1995/06/out-of-this-world.html " ) Worth a read through one of these days. And this is only one, but one of their all time most beautiful all said.

Into the wind, where eagles cross the sky Today my mortal blood will mix with sand It was foretold I will die by thy hand Into Hades my soul descend [VI DEATH HECTOR'S REWARD] Cowards in the grip of fear, no valour to uphold Cut into the earth, with honor long been sold For all shall come to know me As they fall unto their knees Zeus the Thunderer, control my destiny When the cards of life were dealt, My hand a ruthless fate To avenge, and bringeth fury, Hector feel my hate A bloodbath was born to bring, by birth I'm an assassin To cut the cord of life and beath, Ties to earth unfasten Blood and fire death and hate, your body I will desecrate Dogs and vultures eat your flesh the hall of Hades waits Kill... Hector's blood lies on the battlefield His body lies on the battlefield His body's mangled wounds, The gods who once protected him are now his gods of doom, Like a tower standing tall, steadfest in direction I fall upon you bringing death, the gods give no protection Coward in the grip of fear, no valour to uphold Cut into the earth, with honor long been sold For all shall come to know me, as they fall ino their knees Zeus the Thunderer, control my destiny Blood and fire death and hate, you body I will desecrate Dogs and vultures eat your flesh the hall of Hades waits Die, die, die... [VII THE DESECRATION OF HECTOR'S BODY] [PART 1] [PART 2] [VIII THE GLORY OF ACHILLES] The oath of the gods, this day was fulfilled In the heat of the battle, Hector was killed See him Patroclus, down in the dust Rejoice in his death my symbol of trust A dozen highborn youths, have been killed Cutting their throats their blood was all spilled Their bodies set at the fool of your fire With oxen, sheep and two of your hounds Your funeral pyre high off the ground Hector's body dragged three times around I will carry the torch to your funeral pyre I will ask of the wind to send high your fire Hector's blood will not be washed from my body until your body is burned A prophecy spoken a promice fulfilled More blood will be spilled, more will be killed.

JIM, you obviously need something longer, even though the crowd reaction for "GO" at the Albert Hall is great. I would still say This Strange engine or Ocean Cloud. Thanks for the mention. I am travelling from NZ next April for the convention, that's how mad we are us Marillion Anoraks!

Hey Jim! another cool one :) I have thought about something that i didnt talk to you about. Id like to see you reacting to the Band "Skyclad" With their Song "Words fail me". Its a Band that is not that well know but it basically created 2 genres that are really popular in rock and metal. Im not gonna tell which ones tho ;) Just that a lot fo people should appreciate it more.. but thats the case with many awesome bands. The song is from their newest Album and i finally..this year... had the chance to see them live and talk to them for hours. That was one of my biggest dreams cause i know them since i was a little boy and nobody else i met knew them at all.. i was so suprised when they showed up on my favourite festival. They went through much and they were really really great live and yes.. they played that song Live and it was daaamn awesome. It also has a pretty strong message :D I know i recommend quite a few songs but i usually dont ask for a reaction video directly, usually i just exchange awesome music with you ..but this one is too special ^^ Have a nice weekend! (had to edit that. stupid me typed in the wrong song name o.o)

I highly recommend the Marillion song "Power". Some other good ones have been suggested, but I really think you will love the live version of Power.

The story of this album is heartbreaking, hence the emotion in the vocals.

Can you expand on that please? What’s the story?

@@JimNewstead It was based on a young woman who was found on a bridge by police, they could get no story from her so went on local radio to try and find someone who knew who she was. One of the Steve's in the band (can't remember which one now) took that and made a story out of it, a rather grim story of a girl who was abused by her own father and lived on the streets, got into drugs etc. but eventually pulls herself into the light. The Great Escape is her breaking free, she meets her father again "you hurt the one you should have protected" . It's a long time since I got this album but I remember seeing them perform it in Camden and how much it moved me at the time. Hogarth really injects feeling and emotion into his performances.

@@direnova6284 Not exactly. The Great Escape is the young girl committing suicide by leaping off that bridge to her death in the cold waters far below. This song is her suicide note, sung in the first person by Steve Hogarth.
