This song and performance is one of the most iconic moments in history. This was not mainstream at the moment and its masterfully crafted by a visionary. Like him or not, he made history. Nowadays music owes a lot to Mariliyn Manson. Shout out to the fans worldwide, we're on the same boat.

It was a lot easier to shock back then too. Nowadays he has to try to keep up his shock rock image in a world that is really beyond shock and outrage. Even ripping/burning/eating Bible lost most of its shock value. The problem is that when people see Manson, they expect this Manson, so he has to keep up that act even though it’s really outstayed it’s effective period. He could do other things to shock but fans have expectations

This was the absolute best performance this song has ever had, bar none. Such raw power. The shock antics were out in full force, teeth bared, ready to upset the Christians waiting outside. This was Manson at his most provocative and energetic. Although the notion of using the Bible on stage is now old and tired, this particular performance still manages to feel shocking or "taboo" to this day in a way that he's never exactly been able to replicate again. I love everything Manson has ever done, and I certainly still think he's a pretty good live performer, but this performance was truly next level.

This has to be one of his best performances. I recently paid attention to the 3-cycle format of Antichrist Superstar. Knowing that this track starts the final cycle (Disintegrator Rising), and the worm ascended to Antichrist Superstar, makes this whole performance so much more POWERFUL.
@android22arc4 ай бұрын
Can you explain?
@saturnstar7184 ай бұрын
Sure. Manson's seminal album "Antichrist Superstar" was created as a triptych (art broken down into 3 parts). The album had 3 cycles: 1) The Heirophant 2) Inauguration of the Worm 3) Disintegrator Rising Cycle1 foretold the coming of the antichrist. Cycle 2 spoke of the unassuming "worm" Cycle 3 cements the evolution of the worm into the full fledged antichrist, hence the opening track of this cycle. And this performance is the inauguration of the antichrist.

That's f*cking sad. I hate it for you. Not even there from the beginning, you cannot really appreciate taking note of the long term growth cycle, that was watching him morph into what he is now. This has been awesome. It's like getting to see someone rise from infancy to full blown adulthood. Knowing all the while, you're really lucky and bearing witness to something very special that might only come around once every 20 years. 1989... a small hole in the wall bar in New Orleans, a god-like band in their own right, named Nine Inch Nails, allowed this guy to share a stage, and now he has surpassed the level of growth, that NIN could have only fantasized. A turning of the tables, no doubt! AND... I was there to see it! This will never happen again, in my life time.
@dirtyunclehubert Жыл бұрын
@@INFIDEL82AA are you delusional? manson is deader than dead. his career has ended, he is basically ye's pet these days. he wont come back. and i hate it but its mostly his own doing. he was at one point 20 years ago bigger than NIN, but trent is still a massive influence and massively successful these days, while manson is just...game over.
@dirtyunclehubert Жыл бұрын
thats a fresh breeze to read these days, where everyone has dropped manson and he has declined so horribly as a live performer. while it is mandatory to listen to the "tryptich", the big 3, ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR, MECHANICAL ANIMALS, HOLY WOOD, i hope you can find other favorites amongst his many albums. he has become a great dark blues rocker and is still worthy as an artist in my book, his last album was great again. alas the man has ruined himself, his concerts are shamefully bad and with the ongoing allegations, he has altogether been "cancelled", which means ruined.

Manson is a genius. All the different voices repeating the “when you are suffering” line is his warning that you could be betrayed by anyone. Young, old, male or female & there’s even what sounds like a digitized voice which could represent technology. Ironicy, the church teaches the same thing. This is such a trip to watch.....so many memories. CRAZY to think it was 25 years ago....a quarter of a century. I still remember the first time I ever saw Manson on video....it was THIS clip. And it was in a "documentary" called "They Sold Their Souls For Rock & Roll" shown at my Christian youth group. It was MEANT to scare the shit out of us. It worked...kinda. I found it scary, but also alluring, creative, powerful, exciting, mysterious, cool, and liberating. Basically the opposite of what my life was as a scrawny little kid being told by bigoted adults that I was saved from a cosmic tyrant from eternal torture...and that this was "the good news." THIS clip...was good news. It was exciting news. I didn't become a non-theist for probably 5 more years...but the seed had been planted that the world was bigger and more diverse and juicy than I had been exposed to. Seeing this now...brings up some of those old feelings. The danger of being exciting by the forbidden.... If anyone is curious...I highly recommend looking up that documentary. It's....hilarious. And SO 90s. And it takes itself so so seriously. The basic thesis is that Manson above all, but also the Spice Girls(seriously) and every other mid/late 90s artist was an agent of Lucifer. In a way...they were kind of right. But it was Lucifer the light bearer...the liberator...the Promethean demigod fighting on behalf of humanity against the cosmic dictator Yahweh.

come on bro, after all the drugs and booze, you should be happy he isn't dead. he might have slowed down over the years musically, and physically, but he's still there. the song writing in pale emperor is great, altho the sound isn't my cup of tea, I still love the guy. I only say that because, well, prince just died from overdose. Sunrise Musical Theater 11-16-96 kicked my ass like no other show before or since. New York Loose opened for em and got to sit next to twiggy's Aunt & Uncle in the mezzanine cuz me & my stepbrother were too scared to be on the floor. And for all who want to question if that was really Twiggy's Aunt & Uncle I don't think you're going to find too many elderly people going to Mason shows back then just for kicks. They were the coolest people I've ever met at a concert.

Yeah, I remember when I had just started high school, MM came out with Sweet Dreams, from then on for the rest if my high school years, everyone acted like he was Satan himself. Very smart and creative!! I remember going to this show in Utica NY. The local church tried to get Utica to bam show. I remember talking to a group of people waiting to get in the show. They were against the show from coming. But they said they had to see with their own eyes. Manson had people that hated him buy a ticket. Pure genius
