Their presentation got so stupid after Sweet Dreams took off that I forgot they just looked like a fun horror glam metal band around this time. This record still holds up surprisingly well too, they still had a pile of ideas and there are ton of fun samples and great riffage.

Antichrist is also great, come on. Unsane energy and power. But i get the band thing, on AS there were only three of the originals. The main difference to me is the guitarist. Scott putesky had this industrial style with lots of strangness and personal touch. Torniquet intro on Antichrist is also him, I like it so much.

Weird I did the same thing with Antichrist Superstar. Then I started blasting it and my step dad got so pissed he took my cd and threw it in the street and a car rolled over it. Ah, the song that started it all for me. :) The very first time I heard this song was 19 years ago. I was staying the summer with my aunt and there was a local rock radio station that would play the best music after midnight. I was laying in bed, it's pitch dark and this creepy ass song came on. After the first few notes, I sat up and really listened.I was already a fan of metal by way of Pantera and White Zombie, but I had never heard anything like this before in my life. It honestly creeped me out and I loved it. After that initial exposure, I was hooked. This song will always have a special place in my heart. :)

Alwaya thought this was the sound that should have blown them up. Instead its become his least remembered period. "Stop the boat!"

Back in the 90's you could catch it on mtv2 when all it did was play music videos. Also box music channel
@Lokigard2 жыл бұрын
I'd say his least remembered period is the last decade. I couldn't name a single song from it and I have all his 2010 and prior albums (except the stupid Mechanical Animals). Golden Age of Grotesque could be thrown in the dumpster though, I admit...
@LilDroidBlue2 жыл бұрын
@@Lokigard that's funny Mechanical Animals is my favorite album of his haha. 🤷 Difference of opinion. I agree on the rest, I couldn't tell you a single song from the past decade by him. There was one from The High End of Low called Four Rusted Horses that I liked the beat of, but ultimately it's not the same as something like this or Get Your Gunn or Dope Show or Fight Song or even his cover of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus, which I think is the better cover over his version of Sweet Dreams but that's just me. I actually have the vinyl single of that song in translucent red, I picked it up when the song came out. I know we disagree on Mechanical Animals but copies of that go for like 80 bucks or more (more for the colored vinyl) and that's USED. I really hope they reissue some of his albums on vinyl so I can buy it for a more reasonable price and a NEW copy. I would like Mechanical Animals, Antichrist Superstar and obviously Portrait of an American Family the most.
@Lokigard2 жыл бұрын
@@LilDroidBlue - I liked the album with High End of Low (or was that the album title? I am too lazy to look). That is probably the last one I have. One recent song I forgot about that I do like is Tattoed in Reverse. Crazy music video and reminds me of old (but not original) Manson.

I peek into the hole, I struggle for control The children love the show But they fail to see the anguish in my eyes Fail to see the anguish in my eyes I scratch around the brim, I let my mind give in, yeah, yeah The crowd begins to grin But they seem to scream when darkness fills my eyes Seem to scream when darkness fills my eyes, it's no surprise Fail to see the tragic, turn it into magic My big top tricks will always make you happy But we all know the hat is wearing me My bag is in the hat It's filled with this and that My vision's getting fat The rabbit's just a monkey in disguise Stars and pills and needles Dance before our eyes They will bite the hand if it is slower than The quickness of their scrutinizing eyes Fail to see the tragic, turn it into magic My big top tricks will always make you happy But we all know the hat is wearing me Chicanery will always make you happy But we all know the hat is wearing me

"The Children Love The Show, But They Seem To Fail To See The Anguish In My Eyes" I'm not sure if thats what I believe that to mean; but I see that as how many artists may feel, the fans or 'children' love the show and the artist, but seem to fail at seeing they have their own issues and are struggling. I've clearly seen that Manson has been through things & (Also read his book.) I know a few people who think this 'darker person' is his stage persona or he's some weirdo but I wish people would notice very intellectual artists like MM especially are or have struggled, you can like music for music but I just personally wish some people would look deeper than just the beat or the voice.

SAME THANK YOU!!! I showed someone a picture of MM and my favorites of his songs and they called me a Satanist. I looked them dead in the eye and said "he is more than you will have ever looked past. Yeah, I read about it just a moment ago. RIP Scott Putesky a.k.a Daisy Berkowitz. Also Brad Stewart, a.k.a Gidget Gein is dead too. He plays bass on this song (and every other song on Portrait of an American Family), Twiggy just appears in the video and on the album inlay, because Gidget was fired when the album came out. I hope the other members of Spooky Kids are still alive today. Olivia Newton-Bundy, Zsa Zsa Speck, Sara Lee Lucas etc. I'm a big fan of early Marilyn Manson (and the Spooky Kids). I love the first DIY demo tapes they made before they got signed (the demo Lunchbox, not the EP, has very cool cover art), I have them on my mp3 player but it's a good thing most of them are on KZfaq too if someone wants to check them out.

This video raises some interesting questions. Namely. 1. How did they get the goldfish in the cantaloupe? 2. How did they get the blood into the egg? 3. How did they get the rat into the bread? 4. How did they get the bugs into the lemon? Maybe some Vegas style magic sleight of hand? Camera tricks? I've considered them using CG, but that would have probably been too expensive at the time. I guess we'll probably never know.
@drpibisback76806 жыл бұрын
David Mireles The rat looks like an editing trick. Everyone in the band was doing drugs back then, so putting goldfish in a fruit was probably seen as perfectly fine, as would the bugs. The egg is probably a fake egg with fake blood.
