Marina Bay Waterfront lights this Chinese New Year with a dazzling drone light show - The Legend of the Dragon Gate. 1,500 drones take to the sky to tell the story of the mythical Dragon King.
The story draws on the legend of the dragon gate (longmen), which is said to lie at the top of a waterfall that flows from a mythical mountain. Carps that are persistent enough to swim upstream and make the final, brave leap through the dragon gate are believed to turn into a powerful dragon. Filled with themes of family, reunions, and perseverance, and many symbols of luck and prosperity, the light show is an auspicious one to usher in the Year of the Dragon.

1st night filming was beautiful till the sudden rain came pouring down and umbrellas started sprouting up in front of me. The recording was not shareable. The 2nd night filming was framed wide, as I anticipated the drone formations. However, my iPhone did not allow me to switch to extreme wide angle during filming. The 2 dragons, and the final giant dragon were cropped as I could not do the switching. It was a great and enjoyable show ❤

The technology of the drones is amazing, allowing precision positioning of so many of them without any incident. I'm guessing the wind was quite light, which would have helped. But also amazing is the skill of those who program the drones to fly the chosen formations. I can imagine that one error could cause a snowball effect and result in many drones crashing. Brilliant!

Yes Jim. Show drones technology is amazing and they keep improving. It was windy and raining on the 1st night, but the drones kept up with the performance. I hope that all New Year Eve grand fireworks can be replaced by these shows, to cut down the pollution and burning of money.

it's great to see the dragon drone show outside the marina bay sands. the view from the merlion park area is fantastic with an iconic view of the mbs building in the backdrop. there were a few people who managed to capture the event like one of your peers during the heavy rain on the 1st day of the cny holiday and of course, ending up soaking wet! despite the heavy rain, the show still went on as the sudden disruption could be very costly to the organisers.

I was at MBS waterfront on the 1st night and was caught by the sudden downpour too. You can see my footage recorded at MBS at the start of this video. Umbrellas started sprouting up in front of me but I continued recording. However, I felt that the footage is not up to standard for posting so I went again on the 2nd night and filmed from across the Marina Bay. On the 1st night, my opinion is that the organisers did the right thing by continuing the show. So that some people can leave and some can stay to watch. If they stop the show midway, there might be a stampede when everyone start to rush into MBS through the few glass doors. That will be Singapore's equivalent to S Korea's Itaewon Halloween tragedy.

@@SingaporeCityWalks i agree with you that the show must go on during the heavy rain. on the 1st day itself, the crowd was so insane and thus crowd management was very crucial at that time. both the mbs management and event organiser should anticipate a huge swarm of crowds to prevent a possible stampede like what you said, the seoul's halloween tragedy. on the following day, the mbs management advised the crowds to use the public transport like mrt and proceed to the nearest mrt station from the place where they watched the drone display. similarly goes to my experience after the coldplay concert at the kallang stadium where the authorities opened up the access to the stadium mrt station batch by batch to prevent stampede and overcrowding inside the mrt station.

@@hamiltonastan Authorities had always been on top of situations where large crowds are expected. Examples are F1, NDP, New Year Eve countdown, Thaipusam, Chingay, Concerts etc. This time they did not anticipate the crowd size.

Great capture bro, it seems like the formation of the dragon was slightly different from the first night. Maybe I will go for the 3rd and 4th night again

It is different as they made some addition and changes. You will need to switch from wide to extreme wide angle to get the full view of the final dragon in shot.

The video is recorded with the Pocket 3 on 1st day at MBS. Recorded with iPhone 14 Pro Max on 2nd day at the Merlion side. It was recorded at 1x with the iPhone. During recording, I was unable to switch to 0.5 (extra wide) when the final huge dragon appeared. I hope Apple can rectify this fault. (During recording can switch to x2 and x3 but cannot switch to x0.5). Thanks for your compliment 😊

Came here to watch cos MBS cancelled tmr's final show at last min which i had planned to go for (they originally changed out sat to thurs which i cant make it for wkdays) 😢😢😢😢 U must have planned out the videoing well. Really appreciate for these videos to make my regret abit lesser

Cheryl, I sorry that you couldn't see the drones show in person. It's awesome. Glad that you are able to see it here. I brought my wife there to see it on friday 16th Feb. There was a glitch in the show, a long 30 secs black out of the drones (black out started before the crystal ball morphed into 3 beautiful butterflies). I knew then that something went wrong. It was a great large scale drone show. Thanks to MBS and partners for bringing this CNY joy to all ❤️

such a nice video... went on chuyi and didnt even see all these in such a clear and beautiful view... in fact didnt even squeeze out of the mall lol looked through reflective glass and 80% of the view was covered by trees 🤡 appreciate this! HAHA

I was there in the crowd on the waterfront. Had good shots till rain came down and umbrellas went up, blocking my recording. I went again on Chu-er. The recording went well as I had anticipated the show formations. On Chu-yi, I went in through MBS too. Being squeezed left, right and center. I was glad to have made it to the promenade 😀

This dragon looks aged and under nourished as compared those in KZfaq showing from other countries are much vibrant and active. Most likely not enough drones

Behind me is One Fullerton. Probably between PS Cafe and OverEasy, I'm not exactly sure. You need to be at that stretch of the waterfront before 7pm to catch the 9pm show. Best to be there by 6pm. Do you have that patience and persistence? ...and use a tripod and shoot at wide angle with your phone.

youtube search " china cny drone show" dude. go watch it. spore cny drone show...a lifeless weak lazy poor worm crawling in the skyline. its sad for a world finiancial hub to put o such a mediocre display. theres no dynamic, strength, prosperity , radiant in the dragon...only see a sickly worm. no offence. it only show laziness n cant be bother attitude worm. the whole world is watching. its a setback....a lazy sick worm bring bad omen...thats chinese folklore belief
