That text-to-speech was wrong actually. It pronounced it as if it were a person's name, rather than a flower. There's a difference in pitch accent between the cases. 華 with atamadaka (the way text-to-speech said it) is a name; but if pronounced with odaka pitch accent, it means "flower". This applies to 花 as well. And speaking of pitch accent, although 鼻 (nose) sounds the same as the other two in isolation, it actually has a different pitch accent pattern too, using heiban pitch accent specifically, meaning although by itself 鼻 sounds the same as 花/華, if we attach a particle to the end of the words, "flower" has the pitch lower on the particle, while for "nose" it stays high. To visualise it: Nose: 鼻が: はꜛなが (heiban pattern) Flower: 花が: はꜛなꜜが (odaka pattern) Elegant Flower: 花が: はꜛなꜜが (odaka pattern) Hana (the name): 花が or 華が: はꜜなが (atamadaka pattern)

@@oyoo3323 Japanese people, of course! They could put a few jaw wretching syllables in their language as we slavs do, so the words could be totally different. But they want their language all soft and smooth and now i need a music ear to understand it ). It's so hard to learn Japanese.
@oyoo3323
@oyoo3323 Жыл бұрын
@@sergeandou9853 you know it's not a willing choice, right....? That's not how languages work. Also, what musical ear?? This is NOT tone, it's PITCH. Which, if you you know a Slavic language, or even just English, you should already be partially capable of detecting. Most European languages, including English, use stress accent, which means one syllable (sometimes more) in each word is higher in volume, pitch and often length than the rest. Japanese uses a pitch accent system, which is exactly the same, except the pitch is all that changes, not volume or length. At some point in the word, the pitch goes up or down, then it may go down later in the world. It is nowhere as complex as tones are. In fact, the bar is *lower* than for stress accent, since a difference in pitch is the only necessary difference.
@oyoo3323

@@sergeandou9853 additionally... In Modern Standard Japanese, every single word can only fall in one of four possible pitch accent patterns. There isn't an infinite number of combinations. #0: heiban pattern (lit. even plank): がꜛくせいは: low pitch on the 1st syllable, the rest is all high, including on whichever particle follows the word (the most common pattern, used by over 50% of all words). #1: atamadaka pattern (lit. head high): あꜜさは: high pitch on 1st syllable, the rest all low, in including the particle. #2: nakadaka pattern (lit. middle high): せꜛんせꜜいは: low pitch on 1st syllable, high in the middle, low on the end of the word and particle. #3: odaka pattern (lit. tail high): いꜛもうとꜜは: low pitch on 1st syllable, high for the rest of the word, low on the particle. To add, these aren't even completely random, but are in fact semi-predictable, especially for verbs and adjectives. Pitch accent really isn't that complex, or even so different from stress accent which most learners would already be familiar with. It also isn't even that special, many languages have it, even in Europe with Swedish, Norwegian and Limburgish for example. The problem is just that many foreign resources don't bother teaching it all.

Since I'm learning Kanji myself, I'll write this down incase I got it wrong so someone can punch some sense into it. A good sentence to understand the difference of 花 (flower) and 華 (gorgeous flower) is 華やか花園 (hanayaka hanazono) which means gorgeous flower garden. 花 is just flower. There's no attribute to it, it's not beautiful, nor it is ugly. It's a flower, that's it. It can be used as-is or to define something flower or floral, like flower garden or floral pattern. 華 on the other hand has an attribute to it; georgous, elegant, spectacular. 華やか here simply means gorgeous something. Let's look at other examples (note that ka/カ is the on-reading of both 花/華) flower arrangement - かどう - You might think to use 花 since it involves flower but it's actually 華 because elegance, beauty, gorgeous, those are the very essence of flower arrangement. Hence 華道. floral pattern - はながた - As it simply describes something that has floral pattern on it, no beauty attribute attached, 花 is used here; 花形. 花 is N5 which means it will be the first Kanjis to learn. 華 is N1 which will be among the last, if you ever aim for that (since many will stop at N2). Last note, just because a word in english is translated to use a single Kanji does not mean that's all the Kanji means. They can have usages beyond the translation. Check the dictionary on that.

That confusion really wouldn't actually occur in Japanese, since "nose" and "flower" have different pitch accents, so in speech, people can hear the difference.

While 華 can be used as a noun, it's use is usually describing something as beautiful (like hanabanashi); 花 is only used as the noun "flower" so it's more commonly used.
