@@victortorres1585 SF is tier 2. Recon isn’t any tier level since Recon/ Force Recon isn’t apart of SOCOM, they are a USMC asset even though they are a special operations capable unit. @@ChiefMason - The recruiters will give you what you need to prepare for SFAS (I trained up for it early in my career before I got injured prior to attending selection). After the initial briefing, we were given a guide to follow that had laid out the proper workout routine to follow prior to attending. It was very successful with prepping guys for SFAS and it was gospel. Pretty sure that still exists and is given to those that volunteer. You only need a supportive chain of command that will allow you to train up for it.

@@wesleydaniels40 it's because Marine Recon are Special Operations‐Capable, and are much more well trained than your typical infantry units. @@deejay1534 Ricky ticky diva battalions sure love like to act like they are SOF capable. When I a 0311, we had more proven combat experience then recon Marines. As a matter of fact half of their E-5s were boots, the other half of E-5 actually had any combat experience. E-6 in recon were all combat vets, but E-4 and down were booters with shiny jump wings. Only E-5 and higher had dive bubbles. On average you all have more slots open for schools. I'll give you that much. Since you mentioned that 99% of infantry units don't have a quarter of your training, I'll go over what line companies actually have. CQB, we have plenty of guys that were part of Marine Corps Security Force Regiment (FAST companies) that get plenty of CQB, schools like MOUT, CQB and urban assault climbers, even Live Tissue (LTT). FAST guys bring that knowledge to the fleet once they are done. Line companies and guys that come form FAST get sent to infantry specific schools and courses, like assaults climbers, team leader's course, infantry squad leader's course, scout swimmers, coxswain, Marine Corps water survival school, Humvee driver's course, line companies also get slots for LTT like FAST companies, maritime navigator, CRRC mechanic, MCMAP instructor, you can try out for snipers, along with the usual TCCC, CLS work up stuff we need to do. Guys E-5 and lower can do any of this, as long as they aren't turds of course. For E-6 and higher infantrymen, you can get jump school, dive school, you can go to ranger school, you could try out for BUDS, but usually guys that are this far in their career never leave the USMC, in Coronado an instructor there told me that it has only happen once where the infantrymen actually passed BUDS and transferred to the SEALs, but it's kind of dumb since the navy let's anyone try out for BUDS, as per your reenlistment bonus. Recon, you guys do get a lot of training shooting beyond 550m which is is the limit of where infantrymen get a chance to shoot but unless you're a recon sniper, y'all aren't going passed 850m/900yards with a rifle. You get JTAC more often, but in country we had guys got JTAC qualified too. We had guys go to language school too to learn Pashto, as do recon. Infantrymen go on MEUs with recon elements, and if you look up the info on MEUs you would know that MEUs are considered to also be Special Operations‐Capable, since we have a boat company, a trac company and helo company. The difference between Infantrymen and recon is recon get a few more toys, a few more school per Marine on average, and have access to recon snipers, jump and dive school is open to you a lot earlier, especially jump school. But by no fucken means do recon has 99% better training then infantry units. This is the Marine Corps not the army. We get rid of everyone that doesn't deserve to be in the infantry. We're fine just being called grunts and infantry. Unlike recon that likes to think themselves among each other that they are some quasi SOF element. I'll repeat again infantry on MEUs or (FAST)security forces are considered to be Special Operations‐Capable, per Marine Corps doctrine, not my opinion. Just facts. In country we assisted SEALs, PJs, and other SO, SF units, even CIA as they need us. They also kept us safe thanks to there snipers and FOs. Recon also did there part, and got in where we needed eyes and encirclement of the enemy, but you sir are laying it a little thick.

That would defeat the purpose of the current arrangement. The initial resistance to the Marines joining SOCOM back in the 1980s was the (justified) idea that they would effectively "lose" their sole deep reconnaissance asset to another command entity. History has vindicated them in that regard IMO. Force and Divisional Recon assets are similar, but in theory carry out different mission sets. Force Recon has a wider mission profile (GOPLAT, amphibious raids, VBSS, plus general direct action stuff) and in the traditional sense is often seen as better prepared to carry out deep reconnaissance than Divisional Recon personnel. The idea is that Force Recon carries out all of these tasks and is answerable only to the MEF and the Commandant. And, with all due respect, Force Recon would not bring much to SOCOM or JSOC which already has no shortage of units that are well-equipped to conduct special/deep reconnaissance and are subject matter experts in the field. As previously mentioned, the Regimental Reconnaissance Company excels in this role. ACE (aka CAG/Delta Force) has its own Recce/Sniper while DEVGRU (aka SEAL Team Six) likewise has recce/sniper elements who are often conglomerated into a separate entity known as "Black Squadron" tasked with intelligence-gathering ahead of operations by the rest of the unit. More recently, the Air Force has restructured its Special Operations Weather Teams into the "Special Reconnaissance" career field which will be fully integrated amongst existing AFSOC/Special Tactics Battlefield Airmen personnel and all initial reports about it are incredibly promising.

@@shammy3135 Are they? And do they qualify as an SMU? I've heard conflicting reports about this, just as with the Activity. I know that post-2007 transformation from RRD to RRC they became a de facto JSOC asset. I just don't know where the delineating line is between a unit is that is often tasked to JSOC to support the operations of Tier One SMUs... and a unit that is a Tier One SMU unto itself.

A large majority of Green Berets are prior infantry and/or rangers (rangers to us are like your Paratroopers) They can shoot exceptionally well, in adverse conditions, and with a lot of different weapon platforms (especially the Weapons Sergeants) Can’t speak from experience with marine recon, but I worked Group Support and can speak from experience that some of them are fucking excellent shooters. I don't understand why they put the barrel on the wood.. Instead of the stock. The barrel should be able to resonate freely with each release. This way your shot will be different each time.

It doesn’t matter, it’s not free floated so it’s the same pressure on the barrel. Doesn’t matter if you use the rail or barrel on the barricade. Old wive’s tale

Having served in 2nd SRIG, I feel a certain kind of way about training exercises being posted online....as in, we shouldn't post ANYTHING training related online. Some things should remain a secret. We weren't allowed to talk about company strength even with other Marines on base, yet here we are with this shit.

What makes them relatevely slow, when running, at least in my opinion, is keeping they guns muzzle down. In my country military we were told by instructors, to keep gun muzzle up when running short distances. In this way gun doesnt bother your legs and arms movement. But i see, u guys in USA arent big fans of muzzle up. In videos i very rarely see someone in USA keeping the gun muzzle up. Anyway, i dont have moral right to teach those guys about this stuff, i was just regular soldier, so those guys in rhis vid would beat the crap out of me all the way.thats just my friendly observation about gun keeping technique:-)

I’m sure it’s a safety issue, particularly on the range where the only place you want an accidental discharge to go is into the ground.
