If the game is played on the original DS, Mario says, "Yahoo!" on the Nintendo logo screen but if it is played on the DS Lite, DSi, 3DS, or Wii U, he says, "Here we go!"

He does say "Here we go!" upon first starting the game on the OG DS, but every other time when playing on the OG DS, he says "Yahoo!".

It's funny how the blooper was the most hated item in DS yet in that same game you could just keep driving using the minimap completely negating it's effect.

You couldn't see bananas or fake boxes on the minimap, though, so it was still annoying to a degree.

@@russellbrown6888 I dont know about the other consoles but you could see them on the DS lite. I would not even look at the top screen the entire race as I didnt need to. The bottom screen just gave so much more info

@@igarshi457 yep in all official versions of Nintendo DS mario kart I’ve heard of the bottom map in “close up” mode (tap the screen) shows everything in the game with only exception being 👻 ghosted characters and being inked. I don’t even use the top screen when in “competitive” 1v1’s

Its a pattern I've seen in western vs japanese views of media. In many polls, Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion is the most popular Eva character in Japan while in the west it is usually Asuka Langley Soryu In response to this, director Hideaki Anno said Japan is a 'country of children' and dependent on the west culturally interesting stuff

When I was in high school, we would like three days for exams at the end of each semester. Students not currently in an exam sat in a study hall in the cafeteria. A whole group of us would all get together and play because we only needed one person to own the game. It was great.

Same, me and my friends played the crap outta the game on the bus, before the school doors opened, and at lunch. We even became called the (unofficial) gaming club by other kids in the school.

I remember on a field trip I over heard everyone playing So I hopped in and join I always got 1st place I was a loner and only had mario kart ds played online all the time after I figured out how to set up the router took a hour to figure out I was 7. All the kids were angry trying to figure out who RacerX was Alot of memories Mario kart ds It made me alot try out sprite art as well

Same. I noticed the 6th graders on our bus were playing it one day, so I decided to bring my DS and whoop up on them. It was always a heated competition between 6th graders and high schoolers (9-12) first thing in the morning, and I almost always came out on top. I got super good at drift boosting and Waluigi Pinball was the place for that. That was the only year I actually was excited for the school bus to come lol

In the french version, the Mushmellow, one of Toad's karts, is named "Champmignon", a play on "Champignon" (mushroom) and "mignon" (cute). The Gold Mantis, a Waluigi kart, is known as "Mante pelleteuse", an obvious play on "Mante religieuse" (Praying Mantis) and "Pelleteuse" (excavator). The Banisher, a Dry Bones kart, is known as "Outre Tombe" (beyond death or afterlife).

In all of my years and times of playing this masterpiece of an awesome game: I still have my original copy of the game and cartridge box for the 2007 DS Lite. I thank you guys for bringing back so many nostalgic memories of the game (But god damn those Blue Shell's that would hit you at the last minute right before crossing the finish line in the last lap!!). Man, I need to search up of there are any newly made DS Lite's up for sale. Anyways, gotta go!!

Some how and some way I still have Mario Kart DS with the box and everything in it. I’m not sure how it survive since I lost so many games from moving a lot and some broke. Watching these videos makes me want to play again. That was my childhood and I remember the day I picked up the game with my parents.

I think recently it was found that playing the game on an original DS gives a slightly altered startup screen, with Mario saying something different than what he says when the game loads on any other type of DS.

LOVED this game back in the DS days. I actually convinced 3 of my co-workers at the time to buy DS's along with Mario Kart DS just so we could play against each other. I'd even go to a McDonald's after my classes to use their WiFi to play online. Ah, great memories. Thank you for posting this video.

I still remember accidently finding a Nintendo DS with Mario kart included in the backseat of my mum's car shortly before my ninth birthday, and getting so excited knowing what was coming. When the day came I played it pretty much non stop for the next few months, and over the next few years, even though I cycled other games into my go to line up ranging from Nintendogs, to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and everything in between, Mario Kart was the one game that was always there. One of my earliest memories of gaming and to this day I still have that old beaten up DS in the bottom of my wardrobe somewhere after 15 years, it's survived countless trips to visit family across the country, a few plane trips on family holidays, and even found it's way with me to university. I think tomorrow I might have to dig it out and have a nostalgia day.

The cheep cheep sign probably says "Flesh" since they had a Japanese artist drawing the graphics who wasn't proficient in English and didn't know it was supposed to be written with an R. For most people in Japan, there is no noticable difference between L and R

I used to play 8 player Mario Kart DS on breaks at work. It was mandatory to bring your DS to work. This was the most fun breaks ever. What an incredible game.

Yeah, I noticed the Honda connection to the B Dasher over a decade ago. I realized it because I’m into Hot Wheels cars: the RA-series F1 cars were also the inspiration for the Honda Racer, a Hot Wheels car that was part of a collaboration that Mattel did with various real-world automobile manufacturers.

I used to play this in the crowds of robotics competitions in high school. Still my favorite Mario Kart. The controls felt juuuust right to me.

It makes me glad to see so many other people in the comments had a good experience with this game. I did too, I would walk about a mile to a street with six other kids so we could play seven player and occasionally eight player vs. together and it was a blast. We also had Smash Bros. Melee. Honestly, some of the best times I experienced as a kid.

I played this when I was a kid and I dont remember the graphics of the game to be a bit, pixelated. Nostalgia really changes your perspective.

when i first played mario kart ds i had no idea how to do or what even drifting was so i always picked luigi (because he's my favorite of the whole roster), the poltergust 4000, and 50cc

This is still one of my fave Mario Kart's, and I'd argue one of the best ones. It's so, so good and so much fun, even today.

The thing with Safarijeep is probably, that in german Jeep is coloquially used as a synonym for any kind of offroad car, like velcro for hook and loops or band-aid for bandages.

This and Metroid Prime Hunters were definitely the best games on Nintendo DS with the best local and online multiplayer. So many fond memories playing this online and getting hyper-competitive with snaking. I would always host single-cart local lobbies on the bus rides to and from middle school too and they would always fill up with 7 other players either downloading or using their own copy of MK DS. For sure, some of my fondest memories of gaming

I remember playing Mario Kart DS online a ton when it first came out. I'd often have to visit a local McDonald's to play online because I didn't have a router at home. A lot of people complained that online play was ruined by the 'snaking' technique that allowed you go unnaturally high speeds.

DS Download Play with this game was incredible, it really sold the feature on me. I remember playing this with some of my cousins on a camping trip and having a blast. It's just too bad you couldn't play every course with it.
