Everybody on my wiimmfi friends list miss wfc so much, we all put on *random* characters and stuff, we also got out old tvs so we would feel like we're playing in 2008 on wfc. Have A good rest, WFC, We Always love you ;).

I remember if I was getting bored with my other games as a kid I could always count on the WFC and online section of Mario kart. I remember the day they disconnected the WFC. I went online, tried to anyway, and the message came up. I exited the online section and tried again, but then I told my dad, “there’s something on the wii, what is it?” Or something like that. He read the message on the screen and told me I wasn’t able to play it, I can’t remember too much. It didn’t really mean much to me because I was young and didn’t understand how the internet really worked. I left it for around a week or so, the same message came up on my TV. I think I knew then I wasn’t going to be able to play online. Looking back at the WFC makes me think of the hours you could spend on Mario kart, on and offline. To hear about the shop channel and the mii channel being removed makes me wonder why they’re doing it. Rest in peace WFC, and soon to be Mii channel and shop channel in 2019. You will always be remembered in our minds.

I'm here 8 years later... I played Nintendo WIFI Connection Races when I was 3 & 4, My Uncle came upstairs and told me WFC for Mario Kart Wii was shutting down, But, Mario Kart Wii online is still alive, Thanks to Wiimmfi and NEW Wifi Connection

God, that slow click at the end. That hesitation. The knowledge that this is probably the last time you'll ever see that menu again. Waiting for a second, admiring the globe in the background, before finally pressing Yes and disconnecting for the last time.

I remember the last online race i ever had before modding the game. It was a simple 1v1 against a random person on a random dsi page. Good memories

Nintendo did this 9 days before Mario Kart 8's release. They wanted people to stop playing home console Mario Kart and buy the new Mario Kart and play that (it's a typical selling technique). Soon they will take down Mario Kart 7's online.

Back in elementary school my bus came at around 8:10. I remember sometimes getting up early to play WiFi races on MKWii while eating breakfast until i left for the bus and surprisingly enough people were playing it at 7am. Good times. Just as I graduated elementary school the Wii online races were discontinued and my heart sank, but got MK8 as a graduation present. I used to think they discontinued it just because of Mario Kart 8, but not exactly. I am an incoming senior in high school now and the online races on Mario Kart Wii still hold a place in my heart. May these times live on.

It's completely sad to see it officially go away. It was my very first time of online multiplayer experience and I was 10 years old at that time. Even then, I have gotten the main idea of playing with others online. *sad woomy* I doubt that the new children in 2010s are having first time online multiplayer experience with Splatoon 2 and Tetris 99.

I grew up with no technology. My family didn’t make enough to afford it. No internet, no cable TV, nothing. The first console I’d ever received was a Nintendo Wii on my 12th birthday, with Mario Kart included. I played the hell out of Mario Kart. It was my only and favorite game, after all. I began racing my own ghosts for fun after three starring my second license. Sometimes, I look back at all of the games of the golden era I never got to play, like Halo, COD in its prime, or PS classics like Little Big Planet. Sometimes I feel like throwing up if I think about it too much. Wii online just hurts.

I only played online on my DS and 3DS, not on the Wii because we thought we couldn't play online with an hacked wii... I caught up to that though thanks to wiimmfi, dolphin emulator, and my real wii's nand. Oh and a Dolphinbar of course...

I’m trying to spread the word, there is something called CTGP. What it is, is it is a modded version of Mario kart wii that adds 200+ custom tracks along with the original tracks and it has custom servers that allow you to play online. There are also lots of other mods, like 200cc, item rain, where it rains items that u can pick up or get hit by, and lots of other things. It really is amazing and I play it every day. There are even still some twitch streamers and youtubers that are actually rather popular, like 100k+ subs on youtube. I definitely recommend checking it out and watching a tutorial on how to get it.

It’s probably for the best though because people would either stop playing it or the servers would be filled with hackers. Not only that, the wii was going to be 10 years old in 2016 and gamespy (the online service that powers WiFi connections on the wii) was shutting down around when this video took place so they had to close it as well
