If I remember correctly 500 coins is about 5 lives. Tanooki suits are nice but I don't think they are worth 5 lives. Of course a very hard level might cost you 5 lives to get through and non if you have a tanooki suit so...

Am I the only one that thought the expected dark twist would be with Mario not murdering things, the mushroom kingdom would get overrun with creatures who would finally outnumber and attack them all and everyone would die? Actually, Nintendo officially defused that by making it cannon that Mario's various upgrade suits are actually plant based and created by special leaves of these plants. However, that in game evidence was a great deal of years past the original SMB 3 game...where one was left to ponder over such questions. Or...just have fun and ask no questions at all. Ah, freedom of choice...
