It is interesting that a lot of the factories you visit have Zeiss tools to measure. John if you are ever in Germany, Thuringia you should try to get into their Zeiss plant there. They have open house sometimes where you can go into every part of manufacturing.

I worked with machines running Cat40 holders for most of my career. I switched over to another shop with all older machines and everything in the place ran cat50 holders. Took 5 months of hand loading those cat50 holders into a machine at shoulder level and above; My right arm looks like Popeyes arm! Don't forget the weight that the big tools add to those holders.

Great tour John. Thank you. Our bread and butter is CT - 50 tool holders (Le Blond Makino Verticals and Horizontal). Whenever I go to our Haas machines (VF-3 and VM-3) CT - 40, I have a little giggle, because they feel like tea cups. We also run a lot of TG 100 CT-50 Tool Holders/Collets.

19:53 Cat60 Dimensions, in case anyone's wondering. toolholderexchange.com/cat-tool-holders-cat40-cat50/ The largest diameter (the gripper arm), on a Cat40 is 2.5 Inches (~63mm). A Cat60 is 5.5 Inches (~140mm). "That's a huge bitch".

Hahaha, I am going into this video remembering all the scenes from orange vice co's video of the place and you totally cut one of their clips into your video!! It was really surreal to start finding all the things from your video tour of the lab in person, it really doesn't convey that all those shots are spread across many many buildings. Its a trip.

Hmmm some room for integration in the balancing... Laser mark uniquely, then spin for imbalance, read laser mark and send with imbalance correction to drilling. Read laser mark at drilling and look up correction required.

Curling 50 tapers every day! Really builds up your shoulder muscles loading tools into a vertical all the time. Get a big setscrew or mill chuck with a big ol' chunk of carbide and it has to weigh 30+ pounds.

John needs to see some 6 or 8 spindle Acmes to witness some real production! They wouldn't be used for the MariTool products but when you see 10 tools cutting at once then you'll know metal removal... My B&S 00G make s a part that has 3 tool cutting at once and there's less than .01 clearance between the tools when they're cutting. In fact, if you jog the machine they'll contact one another... part in 3.5 seconds....

I doubt he will ever do, he would need to change the adjectives (Cool, Awesome, Insane, Holy Cow, Wow) for superlatives that have not been added to the language yet and he would use them so much, nobody else would be able to talk :-). I am sure he is still amazed by what the trade can give and what he has learned in all this time and explain it to the audience that is not so exposed like me but eager to learn. I am sure he can and he is a nice guy.
