I worked with babies in the NICU and I can't tell you how many babies will stare at a part of the ceiling and start smiling and interacting with spirits they see. One real takeaway from this is changing how we deal with people in comas, or other forms of consciousness, is that we treat them like we are really with them as living beings still aware at some level even if we can't see it.

Dr Raymond Moody wrote a book detailing NDE's (Near Death Experiences) well over thirty years ago. Unfortunately mainstream science/doctors still find it difficult coming to terms with the fact that human consciousness continues after the death of the physical body.
