500 a month is really low for an automated press. Maybe a couple thousand rounds a month minimum.

I see your on the 2nd fastest setting why not the fastest? Id like to get a manufacturing license about now during this pandemic. you've got the right Idea. I shoot about 20k rounds a year. been always buying factory ammo. excellent set up and video showing us your operation. mind me asking some numbers? How much to get this set up and how much per round (9mm)buying in bulk for 50K rounds a time? enough for my son and I for 1 year. a a time.

probably reliability and noise, as someone who does 3d printing (not the same thing but a machine conducting a process) the faster a machine is going, the faster parts wear out and the more likely something is to go wrong, by going at the speed he is, he probably goes fast enough for his own needs without sacrificing reliability in any way

Just curious if you were to max out all the hoppers how many rounds could it make before it would require human intervention to restock either casings bullets primers or powder

What type of bullet seating die are you using? Does it hold on the micrometer or do you have to adjust it often?

It's a Redding Competition Seating Die and yes it holds the setting perfectly, no adjustment needed. It's repeatable as well for different loads.

George Ascione, how do you judge your crimp? For instance,if it does not fit in case checker would you apply more crimp till it would go in and out easily or do you have a different method? I asked because he looks like that may be a Sheridan round checker in the video.
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 6 жыл бұрын
So I actually use a caliper and measure the crimp. I compare it against a factory crimp on a particular round which is consistent with the published reloading data for a round. When you reference reloading data on-line they always give you the case length, case diameter, crimp diameter and a few other measurements. That's what I go by and have not had any problems with my rounds. I do use case gauges to check rounds occasionally to make sure nothing has really changed.
@carlb86
@carlb86 6 жыл бұрын
I use a bullet puller to ensure that the crimp isn't cutting beyond the coating on the bullet, since if so it is exposing lead and deforming the round. I target for just enough crimp to prevent setback.

I'm not sure on the 1050 as I only have the 650 with Mark7 autodrive, but I had a batch, once, that I forgot to put the charging rod back in for the powder measure and ran the press for about 50-70 rounds before realizing they had zero powder charge. I contaminated my good batch of about 2000 pcs with these fucked up rounds with no powder. I now call this batch my "fault training" batch and take it out only to courses and training sessions as I occassionally have an empty case with a primer push the bullet to the barrel. Not enough to cycle the gun and certainly not enough to allow for the next round to chamber, so, it's somewhat "safe", but overall, I'd recommend using the powder check. Not for accurate amounts of charge, but as a safety check that the round actually has powder in. Especially on the 1050 where you have the available die slots (don't reload anyting in one pass with an autodrive, that's my other recommendation).

Sir - Sounds like the mr bullet feeder powder funnel is sticking to case. Have you figured out how to fix that? I am having the same issue. Isn’t causing problems just super annoying!
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 4 жыл бұрын
Actually there is sticking and it is on the powder funnel, (not the Mr. Bullet Feeder) for the powder drop. I have solved that problem. I am right now working on a new video of reloading 9mm brass with many press improvements, one of which is the total elimination of the funnel sticking. While all the manufacturer's literature say what I did should not be done, I have managed to solve that problem with 100% reliability in belling the case and have enjoyed nearly 100% reliability dropping a bullet on the case with the Mr. Bullet Feeder. Stay tuned, that video may be out as early as this weekend.

May I ask how much there is variation in O.A.L in reloaded ammo? Between shortest and longest cartidge in typical 9mm batch of ammo. Thank you.
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 5 жыл бұрын
I don't have actual numbers off the top of my head but I can tell you that the automated press is significantly more consistent when it comes to OAL. In my opinion this is due to a consistent stroke and pressure that does not change as opposed to manually pulling the handle which can give you inconsistent stroke and pressure.

1:43 1646 rounds per hour, not 2100. 454 per hour less than advertised, not taking into account any stops
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 4 жыл бұрын
The press is set for 2100 rounds / hour but I have a pause on the down stroke programmed in to make sure I get a full powder charge and I have set the software up to proportionally slow down the index speed to keep from spilling powder. For 9mm set at 2400 rounds per hour I actually am running at 1360 because the index speed of the press is set to 10 which makes indexing slow enough not to spill any powder. If you set all the trims to zero the press runs at 2400 round/hour, which is what I do when I deprime and size only.

So with the cost of this machine plus all he reloading material needed.... no one has made a video if this is worth the price and time to make 2100 an hour. I presume you sell the reloads? how much does that make you justify the cost and time? I'm interested in getting to sell ammo so this interest me a lot.
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 5 жыл бұрын
I don't sell ammo. To sell ammo you need a manufacturers license and I am a 01 FFL. Besides the cost of the liability insurance is prohibitive. You cannot apply a cost benefit analysis to this purchase, at least not for me. Like many things in this sport including the vast array of firearms I own, it's about want not need. Everyone makes purchase they don't need but want at some point in their lives and that is solely based on the affordability of the cool item you want. For me I purchased these pieces incrementally which doesn't make it cheaper, just spreads out the cost. Even though I go through tens of thousands of rounds/year personally, there is no justifiable reason to run 2100 rounds/hour at least not for me. It does cut down on the repetitive boring nature of reloading bulk ammo, and it does save on tennis elbow for sure. But even without a justifiable reason I still like it and it is a productive tool. Besides, I also let many of my friends bring over their bulk supplies and reload. Its a social event as well.

Looks like 1600 rph to me. Why do you have clutch set at 5? Mark 7 auto drives are incapable of anything over 1800 without a ton of problems and that's with keeping your processing separate from your actual loading.
@easypeasy9603
@easypeasy9603 6 жыл бұрын
Yup, indexing is on 4 and that's what brings it down to mid 1600s. I have my clutch on 6, as I run it w/o brass lubing (for a reason).

why does it say 2100 rounds per hour but then it says 1645 rounds per hour?
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 2 жыл бұрын
That's the speed the press would run at, but I have some other dwell parameters set to help load 9mm shells with no spillage. I have a bottom dwell set for a second to allow complete emptying of the powder funnel, and I have the advance dwell set to give a smooth motion to the case advance to stop any powder spillage. With these dwells it slows down the actual production. If I remove all the dwells in theory it will run at 2100 rounds/hr.

@@georgeascione8861 gotcha, and even then 1600 rounds per hour is a lot haha no need to risk spillage to get an extra 500. Just run it 20 more min and that's it. :)
