How many times will I watch this wonderful film? Mark's mother and I have just returned to Europe after visiting California to bury our beautiful son. The film captures the open mountain roads that Mark loved to drive when he needed to free up his mind and spirit. His friends know that that spirit will be powering through the canyons forever. Rest in peace , my son. Marxdad. . Erik. Thankyou . . Austin. . well done.

I sit here with a lump in my throat viewing this video as it started with me enjoying that beautiful Twin Cam. Yet with the ending taking me right back to a friend that had restored his red Twin Cam to a beautiful state, only to lose his life to cancer soon after at a very early age in his 40's, well over 25 years ago. Truly a wonderful friend, full of life as obviously your son was, I'm sure. May the years have brought you only the best memories, as they have to me.

I'm Mexican, I have an MG just like Mark's, I always watch this video and it inspires me a lot to see it, I'm very sorry for Mark's death although I couldn't know him. He's like the brother I've been missing. Thank you . Miguel

Erik, I’ve watched this video many times now but the first time I saw it I was completely overwhelmed and saddened by the ending. I have no idea how you managed to keep it together without going out of your mind with loss and grief. Much peace and solace to you and your wife. I didn’t know Mark but I’ll think of him often. Take care.

I returned to say that I came back to the MGA, and a Twin Cam to boot. I wasn't looking, but it found me. It has caused me to reconnect with past friends and remembering my lost friend. My car looks beautiful, but the motor is stuck and needs rebuilding. I look forward to driving the California roads as Mark did. This video still gives me a lump in the throat, but now I feel I'm part of a widespread family again. Hope you are well.

Such a great tribute to a man and his car. I will forever miss the sight and sound of Mark with his MGA, charging through the canyons at full stick.

This video caught my eye immediately because it was the most beautiful MGA I have ever laid eyes on. Mark drives the car just like I would, throwing it around some beautiful corners in a California canyon. A truly joyful few minutes watching a seamless blending of man and machine. When I saw Mark’s epitaph at the end I was truly shocked and saddened. How unfair. The man is finally doing what he loves and is cut down. RIP.

What a great story and a wonderful memory for his parents and friends. An inspiration for all of us who have loved driving and the great pleasure it provides. My wife would have loved this story, being the lover of driving on small winding roads that she was.

This video brought back memories! In 1964 I was hanging around with a BMC dealer owned racing team and one of their cars was an MGA Twin Cam. For some reason they chose #13 as their racing number and the poor car lived up to that number's bad luck reputation! While racing at Lime Rock Connecticut the wooden floor boards caught on fire due to the exhaust pipe being too close to the wood. By the time the driver realized he was on fire the flames had reached up under the dashboard and melted the insulation on quite a few wires. Not long after this they were racing at Thompson Raceway and they blew a crankshaft and that was the end of the car's racing career. Three main bearings were simply not up to the task! Shortly after this I purchased the engineless chassis for ... drum roll please... $450! The car came completely set up for racing. Roll bar, oil cooler, anti roll bar, etc. It was also equipped with an almost new set of Goodyear Bluestreak racing tires. I wound up buying a junk yard MGA engine for $150, rebuilding it, and installing it in place of the Twin Cam. Nervous about the unlucky #13 on both doors/hood/trunk I used black electricians tape to turn the 1 into a 4 and kept my fingers crossed that Richard Petty's # 43 would bring me good luck. I eventually drove the car for 2 years and aside from a few problems with the 4 wheel Dunlop disk brakes (leaky wheel cylinders and warped rotors) it proved to be a reliable and very enjoyable car. Eventually I wound up trading the car to a friend for his 1965 MGB. Sadly despite the number change the car's bad luck returned and a drunk driver crashed into the car and totaled it! Sad ending indeed!

A friend of mine, may he rest in piece, spent years restoring a green twin cam MGA to virtual perfection here in NZ. He took me with him to help celebrate his first drive after a few beers. Insisted I wear my seat belt. No law in those days. He was speeding. Slammed into another car and wrecked this beautiful MG twin cam. Great pity.

I had a used one as a kid in the late sixties. Fun to drive lots of character under powered wouldn't take the curves as fast as Id liked to. All in all a car II will never forget the looks and style are gorgeous, a poor mans race car.

What a beautiful video made all the more interesting for me as I did my apprenticeship at Dear Bros in West Moors which was the garage owned by Geff Dear & his brothers Jack & Les. Geff used to do practice starts in the MGA from the front of the workshop into Pinehurst Road .

Days before Christmas, deep into another Canadian winter, this video is a wonderful present to all MG enthusiasts -- thanks Mark! (A few more months of snow and salt, and then I can be reunited with my MG Midget, safe and snug in a garage north of Toronto. See you in the spring "Oily Rag" ! )

"it's fun to drive in the canyons". As an owner of three MG's in my life - a midget, an 1100, and an MGB-GT, I can wholeheartedly agree with that statement. No, I couldn't beat many cars off the line, but very few could keep up with me on a windy mountain road. Fantastic handling, those cars!!!

Hi Mark, I just came across your video, very impressed! Love your twin cam, wish it was mine! I am 71 now and remember waiting for 1 minute after midnight on my 21st birthday to drive my 1600 Mk2. That was in 1970! Great cars. The twin cam did not have a reputation for reliability but you appear to have sorted that issue. Merry Christmas Clive Winters UK Ps. I drive an F Type now

Apparently the motor was extremely difficult to keep all adjusted properly and they didn't use it in the MGB.

The twin cam had some problems, notably a tendency to burn pistons. Many years later it was discovered that the cause was vibration in the carburetors. The solution was to use a rubber O-ring between carburetor and manifold.

@@writerjmd I got that from a 'Classic Cars' in-depth analysis of the twink, maybe 1980, in the days when it gave real technical information. The part they use to fix the issue is a Weber O-ring made for the same job
