As a Dubs fan the Luka/Trae swap is reminiscent of us trading away Vince Carter for Antawn. Antawn carved out a very nice NBA career while Vince lifted an entire nation and became a superstar. It was just such a Warriors thing to do at the time…

I’m in Atlanta and love Ice Trae (second best player in franchise history with a chance to be first, hall of famer). Give Trae a healthy AD in the post and the balance of power in the East shifts (2nd seed for sure with a chance at the 1). Having said that, these things happen to Atlanta. Remember, some years back, Atlanta took Marvin Williams out of NC over CP3 at a time when Atlanta was desperate for a point guard.

That draft was pretty stacked _(Jaren Jackson Jr., Mikal Bridges, Jalen Brunson, SGA, Michael Porter Jr., DeAndre Ayton, Anfernee Simons, and a bunch of solid players like Bruce Brown, Wendell Carter, Chimeze Metu, Jarrod Vanderbilt, Donte DiVincenzo and more)_ and the Hawks used the 3rd pick to get one of the 5 best players _(depending on how you feel about Brunson, Bridges, and SGA)_ and another 1st. Good on the Mavs for getting the best player and another member of the top 5 _(Brunson),_ but honestly, the Hawks had the 2nd best draft after Dallas.

Cuban doesn't even know what his team did. Trae made the CF in 2021. They were drafted in 2018-19. Luka made the playoffs his sophomore year, in the bubble. Trae didn't make it then. Hawks made the CF the following year. I mean cmon cuban.

Luka seems to have the higher ceiling and is more of a superstar than Trae at present, but it's not as if the Hawks were fleeced. Trae has carried the Hawks as far as Luka was able to bring the Mavs. Sure, Luka leads in personal achievements and looks better in the eye test, but the ultimate measure of success in the NBA for franchise players is postseason success. Both guys are on the same level in that metric right now. Obviously, Luka is poised to go farther this season because of the addition of Kyrie and Trae being injured but if the Mavs don't go deep in the playoffs, they'll end up equal in team success again.
