Becoming a famous billionaire first begins with starting a failing company and letting a real business overpay for it during a boom phase of an economic cycle.

@@Blazerelf Bill Gates is the son of William H. Gates Sr and Mary Maxwell Gates. Two very wealthy, very well connected people. Her mother, a banking executive, was the one who talked about this small little Seattle company "Microsoft" to the CEO of IBM, eventually resulting in a partnership that created the Microsoft DOS operating system. Knowing how to make contracts that allow for things like selling an MS-DOS branded operating system after selling rights to the PC-DOS system to IBM is easier when your father is a highly succesful lawyer with a focus on corporate technology, the head of the state Bar Association and a board member of the Chamber of Commerce. Sure, Bill Gates made a lot of good decisions with Microsoft, but he certainly benefited from his family connections in the early years.

Every time I hear the words intrinsic value being thrown around, I cringe because it’s only ever used to describe something that the person thinks has no value, but there is no established formula for calculating intrinsic value. Ultimately, it boils down to the opinion of the person making the claim on what intrinsic value means to them. This is because the value of EVERYTHING is actually subjective. By the same logic used in this video to claim Bitcoin has no intrinsic value, you could claim the same about all currencies, the value of a currency is based on faith and at the end of the day it’s “intrinsic value” is no more than the paper it’s printed on. Also, by this logic, nothing digital on the internet has any “intrinsic” value, yet it’s a multi-trillion dollar industry.

He didn't "gain" but he hedged against the value of his shares going down. Does that make sense? Put options are essentially an "I bet you that at xx date, this stock will be worth xx amount less than it is today" but it isn't just a contract to buy or sell those shares, it's an "options" contract, meaning you could sell that contract at any point. It's a way to hedge against value loss if you know what you're doing, but it's also very frisky if it doesn't go your way.

@@xyz-uw3ps Warren buffets largest claim is that he's leaving his all his money to charity, yet this charity is really just a front to avoid paying taxes. The money he leaves behind will go to this foundation, I believe it's called the (bill and Melinda gates foundation, and yes they are doing the same thing) so his family can benifit from generational wealth while also being able to avoid paying billions of dollars worth of taxes that he owes from his investment firm. This is just a rough explanation, but he is at least smart enough to not hawk nonsense and invite probes. You actually just proved to me how top tier buffets PR team is.

PayPal, SpaceX, Starlink... and he took Tesla from being a nothing burger to a semi-successful car company. Granted, he's benefited from the valuation bubble, but to say he hasn't created nothing is crazy.

@@Quicksilver1936he didn't "make" any of those companies. I'll give him credits for SpaceX because I don't know any better but for every other company you mentioned he was more of a face rather than actually contributing to something of importance to the company. Tesla is officially run by someone totally different, but because Elon managed to put his name down as a "co-founder" he can step in the spotlights as a spokesperson and marketing ploy. I used to be a huge fan, but his latest Twitter debacle made me switch sides.
