Mark Hoppus Talks About Tom DeLonge After Break up

Mark Hoppus talks about how Tom was reacting during the time he left the band and also says how Tom left.
Here's what Mark said during the interview:
"Man, I don't know. At the end, Tom was just a different person. He wouldn't even speak for himself anymore. He was communicating with me and Travis through our manager, and when he wanted something or needed something changed for whatever reason, we would sit down and it would be me and Travis sitting on one side of the room and Tom and our old manager on the other side of the room. Tom would sit there like this [head down] and our manager would do all the talking for him at that point. Even when he quit the band he didn't quit the band. He had his manager call and say, 'Tom's not in the band anymore. He's changed his phone number. He doesn't want to talk to you guys, so...'"

Tensions were really high and tom wanted a more lenient schedule that way he could be with his family more but travis and mark wanted to keep going hard. I don't think it was their managers fault really at all

Tom said they wanted to keep touring and cashing in on Blink's success but he hadn't seen his infant daughter and when he declined they pushed him on it as if to try to convince him that Blink was more important than anything else in his life, including his newborn baby. Then obviously he said Fuck it then and quit. That's Tom's side of it.

“Cashing in on blink’s success” is a really cynical way to say that Mark and Travis had ambitions of blink being the biggest band in the world and they were definitely on that track after the untitled album. I can definitely understand their frustrations with Tom’s attention being scattered which is still true today. And while Tom likes to say it was because he wanted to spend time with his family, whats probably more true is that he had other projects he wanted to pursue that fulfilled him creatively in a way blink didn’t anyway.

Absolutely. They milked the humor with their 2001 album, but the whole vibe of the music was already so different to their 90s stuff. Sure, people grow up, but for me proper Blink is 90s Blink.

Tom legit came out and said he did this because he wanted to start "To the Stars". In his documentary he said it was so secretive he couldn't tell anyone and it killed him. Don't worry it wasn't his flawed character or anything like that and all three are great friends now and Tom will be joining Blink after this 2021 album.

Naw ur 10 years off this is from the first time he left blink in 2005.. At this point in time they weren’t getting along for a while and then mark & travis said some shit like Tom had to put the band before his family. Tom did some interviews about this back then it’s on KZfaq

Nah, while you're correct about the alien stuff about Tom. During this time in 2004-05, Tom and Mark weren't getting along at all. Lots of tension building up during tour. Tom wanted to be with his family but also, Tom and Mark were both having different ambitions with their music. Tom wanted to try a different sound of music what would later become Angles and Airwaves, and Mark wanted to keep going with the pop punk music. Hell even before this happened, when Tom made Box Car Racer, that was pretty much the beginning of the end for Blink 182.

Hard to take anything Tom said seriously back then. He’s said on multiple occasions a lot of the things he said were flawed due to being addicted/doped up in pain killers. Tom said AVA will be one of the greatest rock and roll revolutions in the history of music 😂😂😂 come on now.

Jaime Smith crazy, I remember when this interview came out, I was in high school & kept googling "blink reunion" everyday. Then in '09 it happened & my mind was blown...then Tom fuckin left again.

Does anybody ever notice no matter if its rock,rap,metal,country,and even pop groups always break up because one persons ego smh i dont know the full story but i was pissed when they first broke up,but their sound evolved after tom left in my opinion

Jacob Ellaga California was the #1 selling album for nine weeks. Obviously the band is doing something right. They don't NEED tom. Your opinion is just that, an opinion. It doesn't mean anything. Clearly a lot of other people still like blink even with skiba. Tom's gone now. Get over it

It could be said that people who listen to blink without Tom aren't true fans, there's no point in judging. I feel sad when I think that Mark is the only original member left, and even if I don't disdain what they're doing now, I'm aware it could never be the same (for me).

Tom sucks at communicating with his bandmates, or anyone else for that matter. Half of his Joe Rogan interview was him saying "I can't tell you yet. I can't talk about this. You gotta wait and find out.". I agree with you on California, but I feel like these guys would be on more amiable terms if Tom was more open about his plans and whatnot. Even the BCR thing could have gone a lot smoother if Tom had just admitted he wanted a break to try out a side project instead of saying nothing and then making it seem like he was ditching Mark to start a new band.
