+SicFromTheKush Derek Brunson was on a 4 fight knockout streak when Robert fought him. Also, Yoel and Jacare are two of the scariest fighters in that division. Robert fought them both while the middleweight title holders avoided them. Them two alone I would say qualifies as a "killer's row".

Seriously. Even fighters with good striking but shitty grappling would still beat the shit out of most people. It’s almost the same with guys that are strong ass meatheads and think strength will translate to grappling. I personally thought that because I was strong that I could hang and I ended up getting done in until I got a few years under my belt and realized being strong doesn’t matter, it just helps.

People just don't get it. As a Canadian, I trained at a local gym for a couple years with one of Canada's top kickboxers. He was in the news a few years back for demolishing 15 guys who tried to jump a guy with his girlfriend, and he stepped in to protect them. Anyway, this guy was high prospect and I remember, the ease at which he would punish people sparring at the gym. He went onto the ultimate fighter and lost. Because of his fighting resume, he still got a contract but lost the next 3 fights. Put him against any guy in Canada, and he's a straight killer. But he couldn't even get through the top 30 guy in the UFC. It's so difficult to imagine the skill level, but Hunt and Whittaker are World Class Athletes!! It's unfortunate that the casual fan will never know how skilled, dedicated and talented these guys and gals are, especially those at the top of the game.

Straight up. Mark Hunt is a living legend with a CV that reads like a who's who of MMA. Also, I have no trouble believing an elite martial artist like your friend could wade through a pile of maggots as you describe. A single leg kick can fold a tough man in a half if he's not conditioned to take them and packs of losers tend to lose their balls pretty fast once all their heavy hitters have been smashed up.

@@samplant420 Lol, so you're suggesting if Mark Hunt got into a fight with 5 guys he'd lose? Hence my original point casual fans just don't get it. juan twotree Based on Kelvin’s performance against Chris Weidman, which is really the only top middle weight he has faced (and tbh Chris hasn’t been going too well for a while either), I don’t feel like he could have done what Rob has done.

@juantwotree5710
@juantwotree5710 5 жыл бұрын
I dont think so either, but rob vs kelvin is a stylistic matchup that is intriguing. Rob's striking style is less volume and leans toward being a counter striker. Kelvin is REALLY good at following his punches and entries up with more punches. A solid disruption tactic against a counter puncher. Rob has more power but Kelvin has more snap to his punches. Both must be very careful. I feel like the striking accuracy goes to Kelvin. Rob's head kicks will play a HUGE part in this fight due to Kelvin's height disadvantage and boxing heavy style. Kelvin has nice inside leg kicks against Rob's heavy lead foot. Kelvin most like wont get a single takedown on Rob but will have to threaten with it to get close and punch. Most of this fight will take place in range, which will be Rob's advantage. But if i have to bet, i'll guess Kelvin will catch Rob with a left cross down the pipe or a lead hook over Rob's lead shoulder. Or kelvin misses weight. LOL "TIRAMISUUU!!! I LUUHH YOUUUUU""
@alexbonesjones7570
@alexbonesjones7570 5 жыл бұрын
Methodman fuck I forgot about Jacare... still I’d say that rob did a much better job in that matchup then kelvin did. As for Bisping, I love the dude but he really wasn’t the cream of the crop despite him being champion for a bit... this + the horrible timing of that fight for Bisping = not a huge accomplishment.

As a person who's had between 200-300 street fights. My expectation when going to an MMA gym was that the guys there were going to be about as tough as my hardest street fights. (thought I was being reasonable and not too cocky) I got beat the shit out of for 6 months in everything besides boxing. For a guy who has had as many street fights as I have I felt like a newborn who'd been thrown to the bears. It also made me reconsider what I thought a good fighter would look like... trust me there's some tubby, baby faced murderers out there and no one would even guess they were dangerous.

Winning a street fight is little different to beating an average middle aged man in a sprint. So if you won 50 street fights against poorly skilled fighters it means nothing. The average person might KO Rob Whittaker in a street fight if he ran up behind him and punched him in the back of the head when rob was rotten drunk, but fighting skill won’t help in all situations, same goes for if Rob was walking about in a crowded place and someone stuck him with a knife in the back, he would be unlikely to have time to react to that situation because you can’t see it coming. My point is that it means much more to beat a skilled fighter in a MMA contest than it does to win a street fight. Only fuckwits go out looking for street fights, you could get stabbed with a needle or shot, or simply get hit with a clean shot, fall to the concrete and die from hitting your head.

Good point but some street fighters can definitely beat some mma fighters in a street fight. In a mma fight no chance but yeah, you never know what can happen in a street fight. It's way more dangerous.

Anyone can beat anyone but the CHANCES a street fighter is besting a competent mma fighter is very lol. Not only are they more skilled they now have the freedom to gouge your eyes stomp o n your head and break you without mercy. Not to mention being more relaxed

Didn’t the UFC try n pay off Mark Hunt when they were taken over. Something like a 5 fight contract just for him to never fight again. He told them to ram it! That, the walk away knockouts and him being like 5’10 and fighting at heavy weight just make him the GOAT for me. What a legend.
