He obviously did not know that he was being filmed and set up in a sting operation, so once he 'agreed' to go along with match-fixing just to humour those setting it up to then be able to get away from them, having suspected that they might have been Russian Mafia, he was not to know that he was being filmed and so would not have expected it to be revealed publicly at any stage. If a bloke goes out on the piss and gets in at 4:00am and there is a note from his wife saying for example that her mother is ill and so she has gone over to look after her, if he wife phones him in the morning and during the conversation she asks what time he got home last night, do you really think that he will say 4:00am? ......Then when she tells him that she checked the doorbell camera app on her phone, he is in trouble. John Higgins was banned and fined for saying he would match fix and for not reporting that he had been approached to do so, he was not banned for actually match-fixing itself.

Youre right there Christopher I would say that all things considered he likely did not play the cannon/carom to pot Blue so the pot was accidental. That said, concurrant with my earlier observation, he should not have been near the Blue at all if he was legitimately playing position on his next shot.

Some of these shots are fairly blatant but some of them could easily just be poor shots. Either way he’s a silly boy

Except that John Higgins did not get caught taking a bribe for match-fixing, which probably explains why he was not thrown out of the game. He was banned and fined for saying he would match-fix and then for failing to report an approach to do so. He was not banned for any actual match-fixing because there was never any evidence that he actually did.

I totally agree. I've been watching and playing snooker for 45-odd years, and certain shots he missed (plus total lack of positional play) makes this the most blatant case I've seen. He might have gotten away with it had he not missed by such a wide margin. If he was a rubbish player.....maybe. But he certainly is not.

Not only have I watched snooker for nearly 50 years, I was a house pro at a prestegious snooker club in Vancouver and part-time referee, in Canada. I've watched, studied and examined all of the minutiae of the game and played a fair game myself. Not at the professional level but I know the game pretty well. I'm not here to beat my chest but to respectfully disagree. Sure people have bad days, sure even pros miss and sometimes if something is in their head the can play pretty badly, and sure perhaps you could say that is just Mark's game but if you look at my post you will see why I'm inclined to agree with the ruling. To wit, I don't even care that he missed shots, some rediculously badly, what is much more telling to me is that on those shots that he missed and even a shot where I believe that he was trying to miss an on Black but made it anyway, but all of those shots, including the Black that he potted, he made absolutely no attempt at position. That is a much harder issue to explain away than simply missing the pot. Look at the video again. You have 30 Yrs. Experience, Pay attention to the positional play and ask yourself would ANY legitimate player have played the Cue-ball that way?
