My husband who was a true rocker at 71, but he loved Mark's music. I played this song at his bedside while he lay dying In ICU. .It seemed to bring him peace and settled his heart rhythm so he could pass in peace.. Thank you Mark. RIP MY love.. 10-13-21

There isn’t a moment while listening to this beautiful song, that I don’t think of them, or all of our brave men and women in uniform. Thank you Mr. Knopfler for this extraordinary expression of our military members shared experiences. Maybe one day we might all make the leap beyond this insanity of harming each other with such precision, and work toward a different future. Here’s hoping that day arrives soon. Peace to all.

I avoid this song as often as I can. I love it but it gets me every time and kicks me in the guts every time and I find myself crying like a baby. It brings back memories of uncertain times of despair and war and what the future might bring, but mostly and most tragically the loss of innocence. My wife always tries to convince me not to listen to it because as she says it's difficult to console me, nevertheless she always does it. She's an angel! Anyway, if this song gets you, you know for sure that you are still on the right side of things. Cheers and Peace!

With 37 years military service, and 25 years federal law enforcement….this remains an anthem for those who suffer under oppression, those who resist it, those who fight to prevent it, certainly those who make the ultimate sacrifice, and those who stand and support them…..whether for country, principle, or life. And this live version pulls at the heart like no other.

Now the sun's gone to hell and The moon's riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line in your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms War is a fool's errand . Each side believing they are right when the reality is that often war is waged for profit and far too many pay with their lives.

@@AS-lk2vm. Only partly true, mi amigo. Not all the time, but yes, sometimes. But more often than not, my experience?…..it isn’t for money that men and women go forth under arms. Usually, it is for something far greater: principles like freedom, justice, or something else far greater than “profit”. And if you truly don’t understand that, I’m sorry for you. Still, I wish you only the best. Stay safe….and sleep well, friend. There are good men and women out there, in uniform, standing watch, to ensure that you can. And remember, “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing”.

Through some stressful events in my life…Lebanon ‘84, the Battery 9/11, SAR and body retrieval New Orleans post-Katrina, countless LE Ops…the music of PF was with me. As a musician, the hardest thing to do is to maintain your relationship with your songs. To remember what drove you to write it. And how we feel when it comes together. Music is how we remember our lives. The feelings that were so strong. But have faded. For me it's always a emotional revival. This ties us together.

This will be my reflection song during the showing of a life well lived when I'm dead. At almost 73 years of age and with a grandfather who served on the Somme in the Light Horse, my Dad in the RAAF and me missing the " American War, as the Vietnamese people correctly call it, by one day, I totally comprehend the futility of war. Just look at where the world is now. Enough said. So, as family and friends head for a wake to be long remembered, " Going Home " from Local Hero shall send them to craft beer, exceptional wines, non-alcoholic beverages if required and to finish off, a selection of exceptional single malts. I just wish I could be there. And to you Mark Knofler, what a wonderful legacy you have bestowed on people who appreciate, respect, and absorbe the brilliance of your special gift of composition and sharing. I took my oldest daughter, who is now 40, to see you at the Sydney Entertainment Centre before it's was redeveloped. A wee tear slid from my eye when you sang two of my three favourite compositions. Slainte.

I was very young when I often went fishing with my father. We drove to a beautiful spot outside the city we lived in. During the ride he played a mix-tape with songs of Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Toto, Dire Straits, The Cure and Pink Floyd. I loved it, but as I child my mind could easily switch into other subjects. Years passed by, I got older and developed my own taste in music. Suddenly these artists and songs came back. We went fishing when I was 6 or 7. I got back to these songs when I was twenty or so. And now, at the age of 38, I listen to these songs over and over again. Thinking of those days. Of my father back then. Being there for me. Always. And he still is. Now I'm a father as well. Hopefully my kids will have the same memories when they are older. Memories about me. The current days. Their childhood. And the music they hear.

You're there. Be a dad and you're winning. I still have memories of music from my dad's time as a kid. Jim Reeves, Slim Whitman and several more. I have my own tastes now of course, but the songs I share with dad... man they are special. ( I'm about 12 year older than you... and my dad, being born in 1919 might be a bit older than yours :) )

Brings me back to healthier and happier times when I was younger and in better health. Been suffering with treatment-resistant depression for several years and hearing some of my favourite songs is a bitter-sweet thing. Listening to this is like a happy star shining down on me, but also brings a tear to my eye for days gone by.

Как много можно сказать великолепной игрой, прекрасной музыкой, словами со смыслом... И никакие спецэффекты не могут сердце зацепить за живое. А Марку дано.

@@runrabbitrun5437 Particularly poignant now, as I sit in my adopted country Ukraine, watching as Putin's army pounds it to dust but the armed forces still resisting and giving of their best to protect us and still standing proud after 3 weeks. Glory to Ukraine and its armed forces!
