Long time friend Mark brought me his beautiful 1977 Corvette to get the transmission swapped out, and to also get his driver's side window working. Enjoy!

My last trans I went down to Harbor freight and picked up a trans jack and OH boy did that help. That said. my car lift is in a box in front of the shop as we speak. I am doing a body off on a one owner 68 roadster like the one Dad and I rebuilt in 74. When you pulled out of your driveway and step on your friends car I remembered my 1st time. The sound and the power looking over the fenders and the hood made this 17 year old a believer forever. Plus the roadster has a feeling of freedom only William Wallace could understand. Keep up the good work as long as you can and when they pull your cold dead hands off your ratchet you will have died a happy man!

It's amazing how many mechanics don't take the time needed to diagnose the issue correctly and just jumps straight to replacing parts with new parts and not even checking if it actually fixed the issue or not. Anyway, great job as always Ben, and thank you for the upload...always a pleasure and extremely satisfying to watch your videos.

another awesome video, quick story I had my wife's 79 Torque Convertor stored in my dry storage for a couple years, had my racing buddy build her transmission and I brought her good clean torque convertor with me.I got the transmission back and he stated to me I don't know anything about this torque Convertor and I thought no problem I will use it again it was new in 2002 if I remember correct. Long story short it seems it got moved on it's side at one point and it slightly rubbed when we started driving the Vette. IT filled every part of the transmission with a slight metal fillings and needless to say we had to completely rebuild it again and ad a new torque convertor, lesson learned ,go through torque convertor as well, just a tip from experience. Love your show... and get a outside 4 poster for those quick jobs...

You are the master when it comes 2 Corvettes! Sometime ago you asked your viewers what they wanted to see as I restoration. Here's an idea when was the last time you saw a 1972 Buick Riviera or a Oldsmobile Toronado. You just do not see ladies boat tail cars anywhere.

Put an aftermarket dipstick in mine. Too many leaks originating from that oring system. Also eliminated the step up cable. Just step up manually. Eliminated all leaks. Driver window shakes more due to one of the rollers (upper left) that has broken. It is a bit of a pain to get those window scissors inside and out....A bit pricey at 50 bucks for new rollers though.
@aboutmyfathersbusiness83243 жыл бұрын
I had a window shake too on my door window. I had to replace one of the roller wheels on my window rail as it had failed. Getting that scissor our of the door is not fun. Re transmission; I got rid of my step up. Too many issues leaking. Just put silicone and bolted it shut. I just drop it in 2nd if I wanna pass. Another tip on my end is a oil "catch can" between the pcv and the intake. It traps quite a bit of oil that would have been burned in the top end. I probably take out a cup of oil every 3000 miles. And Yes I would pay someone to do that job. My days of dropping transmissions is over :)

Being 63y.o. now,I wouldn't be able to lay on the ground or garage floor to unhook anything :-( Would definitely need a lift. My neighbor has a lift that can be moved about if needed,don't know the name of it though. Anyway..another great and informative vid Ben..love your channel!

I bought a transmission jack it's easier Harbor Freight has them that's a whole Jack it's a jack adapter for years figured Jack you know what I mean and you have to have a long half inch three or four of those bellhousing bolts what a pain in the butt

Thanks Ben for another great video I've love them all! I might be able to suggest some advice from an electronics prospective. If A device is measuring a positive to both sides it means one of two things. A it's a short to ground Not good it's stuffed. Open circuit to ground? You did this on your 77 return from the grave. Check it's earth!!. But the earth failure could be in the alternator or generator on older cars you but it's worth checking.

Wobbly windows on a GM hard top car is common. Every G body Olds I’ve owned was like that too.
@TheCorvetteBen5 жыл бұрын
Yep, they all wobble to a point, it's just reducing the wobble that makes the difference
@robpustolka53685 жыл бұрын
How to reduce the wobble??
@sheldondyck86315 жыл бұрын
TheCorvetteBen yup been there done that. Sometimes it’s as simple as a tightening or readjust other times it means spending money to rebuild the whole window regulator assembly.

@226speedracer4 жыл бұрын
Another 69 junkie here. From what I know it works off of vacuum. Possible leak or bad hose
@timhahn75423 жыл бұрын
The tach runs off a cable driven by a gear on the side of the distributor. Likely a stripped gear in the distributor, which is common and easily replaced.
@russellanderson3281 Жыл бұрын
Why didn't you talk about the most important stuff like cooler clean and rear main seal checking torque converter for wear and spacing and to make sure it's the sports car converter and not the station wagon converter unless you like it to shift like a grandma car

Because I pulled it out of a 1978 corvette myself.
