The most peaceful tend to be the Christians. I've been to countries where they kill you for being gay. For the crime of being raped (not performing it but being the victim). Or maybe in his parish the priest sprinkles the ash on the head? Both sprinkling of ashes and tracing an ahs cross are common practices in the world. Bepends on where you are which you are more likely to encounter. The Vatican and Italy sprinkle ashes, in the USA tracing an ash cross is more common. In my country we do both and it depends on the tradition in that particular parish.
