Thank you for sharing your practice methods. It's fantastic to get info like this from a consummate pro. It's so easy to reinforce bad habits when you don't start with a good warm up and end with a warm down. I am a comeback player and Stamp exercises work really well for me, especially connecting middle and high registers and producing a more open tone up high. I've been working with PDFS and it's definitely time to get the Stamp book. The Caruso too. I love warming down with Caruso. No matter what may go wrong during the day the warm down helps the chops to relax and get set for the next day.

I was doing Jimmy Stamp warm ups and exercises over 40 years ago. Nice to see they are still relevant today.

Thank you for sharing your methods to staying in shape... I received my stamp book and caruso book 2 months ago and have noticed a great amount of success and am now consistently hitting double "C"

Hi Mark. I grew up studying with Carmine Caruso. I love what you have to say about him. It all reflects in the great player you are. Keep the tips coming you are doing a good unselfish service.

Thank you Ralph - Carmine Caruso was a gift to us all and I am grateful his teachings. I think he was brilliant.

Watching this video took me back to studying with Sy Pryweller. If it weren’t for him, I would’ve had no foundation for my playing. I remember meeting you some time ago, after finishing a lesson at Sy’s place. You sound killin’ by the way

Stew Brenner got me hooked on Caruso's 6 notes and the 2nds/3rds range builders and Mitchell Book 4 a.k.a.The Green Book and I've been on them ever since...Sy had me doing the Stamp stuff religiously...wish I had the foresight to ask you about them back in the summer of '84 LOL

I love the Stamp and Caruso. Both were wonderful teachers. Sy and Stu were fantastic as well. Sy was my main teacher and probably yours too.

Dan Miller down at UCF put me on to the stamp exercises and I’ve been using them to warm up everyday. Really awesome exercises
@MarkZauss4 жыл бұрын
That's fantastic - It is a fantastic warm up and sets everything in place. I am glad you are able to work with Dan Miller. He is a truly nice person, excellent musician and a phenomenal trumpet player.

Mark Zauss I’ve already started to use your methods after trying different options. Cat Anderson method, Caruso (very good method), stamp even also the P.E.T.E etc. You tell the things clearly so that you can bring it in practice more easily. 👍👍👍👍

Awesome video! Out of curiosity do you ever do stamp 6 or any of the stamp 3 variations (3a, 3b,3c)?
@curtiseby85934 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! So just to recap, you do a few pages of Stamp starting with the mouthpiece, flexibilities and Caruso. After you take a break, are you working on any more technique and then music? Do you have other practice sessions spread out throughout the day? Thx!

Thank you for asking and great question. I usually practice out of the Harold Mitchel Book 4.

Master could you please tell me which mouthpiece you play with?
@MarkZauss4 жыл бұрын
Hello Orquesta - Absolutely and thank you for asking. I use a Warburton mouthpiece with a 9 rim and a extra shallow cup that has been modified. I also use a 7 back bore - Here is a link with the exact specs - www.warburton-usa.com/index.php/customer-endorsements/83-mark-zauss

You know you practice a lot when your dog lays next to you bored, the opposite would be your dog getting scared of your trumpet.

Let's get serious. What diameter mouthpiece is in this video. jw
@MarkZauss Жыл бұрын
It's a custom mouthpiece that Terry Warburton made for me. I have known him since I was 16 and he knew exactly what mouthpiece to make me. Here's the write up on his page - Mark Zauss Signature Top Inner Diameter: .610 Outer Diameter: 1.050 Cup: Extra-Shallow Hammock-style Bowl Bore: 27 "$170.00 · 14-day returns · In stock

Yes - I always use a mute at home when I practice except for this video.

@@MarkZauss Hey Mark, is that safe to do? It seems to do more harm than good for me :( it again and again messed up my chops because it strains my lip muscles a lot. Is there a way to counter this? For the record, I use the Yamaha Silent Brass (a looooot of resistance)
@markdsiddall4 жыл бұрын
@@MarkZauss hello! Thank you for these great videos! Just curious what practice mute you use and recommend? Thanks again! Be well!

@@markdsiddall Thank you for asking. I use either a Yahama Silent Brass or Protec Practice Mute.
