As someone who rents cameras for film work, this is by far the most informative video I've seen on the Sony colour profiles. This explains everything I need to know but with tangible real world examples rather than a simple "Before/After" wipe most other tutorials keep showing us. Thank you so much!

I think that sometimes many of us have powerful equipment but sometimes we cannot understand how there are people who have the same camera and obtain impressive results, sometimes one thinks that everything is due to color correction but in this video you show us tools that can help your image look really professional and also cinematic, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

You know, this may be one of the greatest videos on KZfaq. So well-explained, I nearly gave up on this process, but kept at it, and now I've gotten a color look for my A-Roll that looks just as good, if not better, than how it typically looked in Da Vinci Resolve after hours of color grading. Now I have that color baked into my camera footage right off the SD card, saving me a ton of time in post. Even if I end up going back to color grading in the future, I learned a lot while following this video, so thank you.

Can’t describe, how much I appreciate this video!! I used your settings and now my A6300 footage looks so much better! I can even add luts at 50-70% intensity, desaturate the video in post, and I swear, it mimics 10 bit footage. With 8 bit video, you cannot use base slog2 settings, because if you add color in post, you get massive color noise and image does break apart. So your settings are an absolute must. In my experience, never hurts to desaturate the image in post with 8 bit, if you want to use luts.

@Mark10ProVideo3 жыл бұрын
Jesus, tell you mom to give you a break here:) It is work to make something look good. A really wuick solution is to set tthe picture profile to "Movie" and the color to "Movie" as well. then go to maybe -5 on the black level. That should give you vibrant colors and good skin tones. Not as much dynamic range, but it should mix well with gopro footage. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Thank you for this great info. Regarding Color Phase, this option should not exist normally. But it exists because Sony knows they have a problem with their sensor design and/or color science. If a person is not lit PERFECTLY at 5600, then you need to change Color Phase depending on Daylight or Tungsten light. White balance won't be able to fix this. Basically, if someone prefers to shoot with a customized slog2, they need two such profiles: one for Daylight, and one for Tungsten, changing the Color phase towards yellow, or towards magenta each time. The sensor does not keep the same color tone after white balance was done, it shifts depending on the D or T light. Other cameras are able to keep that shifting in place (e.g. Arri, Canon, RED), but sony-based sensor cameras don't (the problem is visible on Panasonic cameras too, since they use sony sensors). Basically, this is what gives people a green skin color on indoor/tungsten or low light s-log2, that everyone is unhappy about on Sonys.
@Mark10ProVideo3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for the info. How do you tweak color phase in your camera?

good video!. i also try to get all the settings in camera. based on my extensive test with zv1, ive realized gamma movie and still, are the best for deep low light since sony applies noise reduction on those gamma. but i also like hlg3 since it reduces overexposed highlight like car lights or street lamp. also i noticed its best to have the sharpness in camera instead of leave to post, adding in post is worse as it sharpens the total video including noise, but in camera doesnt sharpen the noise as much, because its applied before the noise reduction. slog cant be used for low light at all. your low light scene iso is good, any low light zv1 is usually over 2000 iso to get good exposure. in summary, its best for each person to try as much settings as possible in their own scenes and find which works. its good to also try and get everything in camera instead of leaving to post. currently i use heavily adjusted hlg3 in pp8, and heavily adjusted movie gamma in pp2, pp3, pp4 variety.
