Curious: On average, how many photo centric trips do you go on each year?

I'm having a lot of wishes for photography trips but somehow they never get there. I do go out a morning or a day sometimes but never multiple days. We planned a holliday to South Africa hoping I could do a lot of photography but we had to cancel that last minute. We have a son of 1.5 year old and he had a lot of medical issues the first 12 months preventing us from going away more. But now he's OK and we have find the confidence in picking up our own lives and dreams next to the one with him and that is what I'm finding very difficult.

Never a bad tutorial from you Mark on any subject. I wish you were my next door neighbour, but then you would have to move house because of the bloke next door asking all questions and then wanting more. I’d be a pain in the butt. Great to be privileged enough to follow your ideas. Thank you heaps. Neville J.

I don't specifically go on photo centric trips per se. But looking back, I realize that I bring extra gear (extra lenses, tripod, ND filters, remote) depending on the location. And for the most part, that's when I go to places that are rich in nature and landscape. That's how I found out about your channel. As a novice, I was looking for resources online about landscape photography, and from you I learned a lot of tips about on-site composition, split toning, range masks among other things. I also like how you try to keep the images as natural looking as possible. Your channel is by far my favorite photography source. Keep up the good work and I'm already looking forward to the next video!

Mark, I feel like I learn more from you than any other photographer / instructor on the internet. Your teaching style of explaining how you learned the various techniques is really enlightening and easy for me to remember and practice in my own photography. I really like the fact that you don't have a slick, 3 minute intro with a lot of splash and wasted time. My free time is short and I really appreciate your video format however don't ever worry about taking too much length on your videos. They are packed with great information. I thank you sincerely for your obvious, continuing efforts to keep sharing your experiences and expertise! Thanks again!

Hi Mark It's been a while since I've started following you and I just wanted to thank you for the efforts you're putting in, sharing your experience and knowledge with the rest of us. I guess what I truly appreciate about you and your videos in particular, is the sincerity that have in your words. This, by far, is the most humble photography channel I'm following and to be honest, the most relatable one. You're an amazing photographer which I have a lot of respect for, but you explain things in such a way that beginners or introverts like me would also relate to. No fancy words, just the essence! Can't express myself well enough I guess :D Wishing you all the bests and I look forward watching your next vid. Regards, Ali// Oslo, Norway

Many thanks, Mark. Some comments, if I may. 1. It's refreshing to see AND hear it admitted that those who are way more experienced and knowledgeable than I sometimes overlook things in comp, ie the lighthouse images. Ah, how often I've seen that "error" when at home, and too late. 2. The work-flow and suggestions in LR, is really great and very helpful; not cropping in LR initially - great to know. And lastly 3. It pays to back over less recent posts. Do carry on !!

You should really check out «set default» in LR. Because you always enable lens correction, add a bit of contrast, reduce highlight and invrease shadow. Make those changes (just small changes. -30 highlight, + 30 shadow) and the hit set default. Then next rime you import your pictures they all get the usual changes. By doing so you saves time and sometimes you notice an imange that you normally just scrolled by.

Change the Color Profile from Adobe Color to Camera Neutral (Or Adobe Neutral). That will give you a flatter file to start from (and usually recover what may show as blown highlights/crushed blacks), and then you can add back more contrast (without further clipping highlights/blacks).

Thank you very much Mark. You're correct that the steps between taking the photos and choosing which ones to edit isn't covered much so I appreciate you sharing your workflow. I still am a bit curious about certain things. First, do you then just delete the 900 photos that you took that you didn't like? As a bit of a hoarder and sentimentalist, it is hard for me to delete a photo unless it is obviously bad such as out of focus or having no obvious potential. Second, I know that deleting our bad photos makes us better photographers but I'm not sure what the point is of taking a bunch of bad photos. Should we take more time before we click the shutter so we get more keepers or is photography a bit like whittling where you have to cut away a bunch of bad photos to get to the good ones? When I think of how you're working in the field, I wonder if, as you keep working a scene that maybe you could mark the photo that you think is best and use that as a first edit. It would be interesting to then open the marked photos and see if they give you what you were looking for. Excellent video and I really enjoy learning from you.

Mark Denney you explain everything so well and with a really nice temperament! The only thing I can’t quite understand yet is layer masks! So a tutorial on them would be great! Especially from you 👍

Thank you for your videos. I have two note cards next to my computer, a list of your lightroom short cuts and your edit flow. I wish the light house would have worked. Keep up the good work.

Thanks again, Mark! Enjoyed this a lot. I learned about the Split Toning here so that was really helpful, and also the Calibration. I spend way too much time. In fact I’m still editing my images. I cull through all of them with successive stars and am intrigued by your simple system. I just might try that for my remaining images!

Thanks for the video, awesome work. I need to travel. All of you techniques are similar to what I do. One you blend I see that the images aren't aligned but I know with this example only the water was blended so that worked. I find, unless I accidentally move the camera, which I try not to do when you enable profile correction sometimes it doesn't line up correctly. Usually I align images then stack then blend. Great videos and progress.

Great video, Mark! I’m learning Lightroom, very slowly, at the moment and got some great tips from you here. I know I have a tendency to over edit, trying to reign it in a little. Thanks for the great info 👍🏻
