Whoever had the idea to adapt The King In Yellow as a babysitting horror game deserves to know they're brilliant, brilliant bastards.

i like how the animals are sort of different endings, the sheep is sort of the coward ending where you just do what the baby says, the rabbit is where you get away from the baby and escape, and hopefully we will see the cat ending when the new black cat stuff comes out

For those curious, Hastur is also known as the King in Yellow. He's basically an eldritch god (old ones) from the same mythos as Cthulu. Some variations have him as Cthulu's half-brother, iirc. I'm not super well versed on it, sadly, but the general gist is there.

Something I never knew we needed: An Eldritch themed horror game -- based on "The King in Yellow" by Robert Chambers -- that consists of you taking care of a baby prince. Big props to the developers for making a game with their own unique spin on the stories. Also, over 80mil downloads? WTF-- that's insane. Good shit to the dev team, and thanks Mark for playing the new content! Hope you play the black cat content when it gets released, too. To summarize: This game is hella dope as a fan of this type of horror fiction, and I hope most, or some of you, will feel the same.

I love how throughout the three stories the player reads to the baby, the prince slowly begins to show more creepy and unsettling features, like the baby. Very nice attention to detail, helping to show more about the baby the player is babysitting.

There they found marvelous sights, beautiful builds, and a calming landscape. The Cat was happy with sharing the wonders of his world with The Prince. Okay, so I assume this isn't super apparent because the book itself is semi-obscure but the whole game is paying homage to one of the most powerful entities in the lovecraftian mythos, Hastur; the king in yellow. Essentially a messenger and herald of the outer gods who himself is also an omnipresent outer God whose power is only outshone by his formless parents who are trapped beyond our reality. The symbolism is laid on very thick from the child being called prince, to his clothing, to his ritualistic abidement and even the fact that silencing him can momentarily stop him, and even his symbol/mark that appears.

Carcosa is one of many names for an entity in cthulu nythos, the baby is, lore wise, an eldritch being, the king in yellow. Interestingly, the same king in yellow from that eldritch horror dating sim Mark played, she was the second date.

To be honest from a lot of experience of horror games Mark just cannot be fazed by anything the baby does lol- plus the fast lock switching on the lock on the vent. And the baby was chasing Mark but he found the keys pretty quickly in the jumble- I died in that part...

The developer of this game is Scottish and as a Scot I am so proud to see a Scottish developer get this much recognition! Makes me laugh that Mark didn't know what the 'lounge table' was, or hearing nappy and toasties used instead of diaper and grilled cheese sandwiches. Makes the game even cooler to me :)

I was working on an assignment and had Mark playing in the background. When he was reading the book I was like 'damn, that's a good British accent Mark's doing' and then I checked to see that it wasn't him 💀💀
