Thanks to all of you who support me on Patreon. You da real mvps! $1 per month helps!! :) / patrickjmt !! Markov Chains - Part 8 - Standard Form for Absorbing Markov Chains. Ok, so really we are finding standard form for the TRANSITION matrix associated with a Markov chain but I thought this title would help people find the video easier. We will use the standard form to find the limiting matrix.

this is really helpful, but I wish you would do a video on with a 3x3 matrix using or solving with elimination.

what if we want to find this on 3x3 matrix? The solutions will not resemble? Since you use even number of entries you could use this method?

never heard of them til you mentioned them. i just read an article on wikipedia that did not seem to hard to understand - check there.

Gaah you are the best thing I've come across since being introduced to youtube mp3 file converter (that is a huge deal man!) I am in second year and taking this module and even though i attend every lecture and tutorial.. i still have no clue what the fuck the bitch is on about. I have an exam worth 50% in jan and yeah.. your videos are really helping me a great deal! sorry for the long comment, it's 2am and I finally get it!!! Hallelujah

Hi...Although this video is very very old...But can you please share the Book reference for the formulas to find the limiting matrix? I have to use it as a reference in my paper

what if the identity matrix is not the same size of Q?
@mortkebab2849

The usual way I've seen of writing the canonical matrix is with the identity matrix in the lower right corner, R in the top right, Q in the top left and 0 matrix in the bottom left. I find such departure from a common format to be confusing in following the discussion.

Great video. Could you also show a proof of a limiting matrix - how to derive it?

How do you put a matrix in standard form if there is an odd number of rows/columns? like in the case of a 3x3 matrix for example

But what happens when you have an odd number of rows and columns in a square matrix?
