Ive been trying to spread the word: the more I ride mine the more I enjoy it. I put the TEC cam in as well as a Zard exhaust and now I easily hit the limiter at 85mph all the time. Before I could barely get it up to, and keep it at, 80mph. Definitely worth it, at least the cam, if you are planning on getting one. Im replacing brake pads this week which Im sure will help the slightly lackluster brakes. Other than that Ive replaced bits and pieces here and there and Im loving the way it looks and rides. It wont shoot you to the moon, but it will get you there nice and smoothly. With a cam and exhaust it will with a little more zip.

Bought a Himalayan 2 years ago as an every day ride to work bike to replace a 60k Honda, apart from the feeble rear rack I've no issues at all with this bike . Easy to service, service cheap to run , reliable, better build quality than the h---a . Yes they lack at bit of performance, best performance mod for the himi is to get a continental gt 650 to blast round on at the weekend..👍

I have one and i love it, for the island i live on full of muddy tracks and bad tarmac with potholes and broken water pipes every week or two, this bike is perfect. And consider i own a ducati nightshift scrambler, a ducati scrambler limited cafe racer, and a harley davidson 1200 sportster too, and I am still proud to ride my enfield scram 411. Great for beginners who are tall enough, as the low horsepower and low revs it likes, is nice and safe, and the bike, once rolling, is very stable, and handles all kinds of surfaces as well as great cornering and a very wide turning angle

G'day Mark from Australia, my local RE dealer can't get enough of the scram 411cc bikes as soon as they arrive there gone, RE are on a good principle of keep it simple and it works, there off roaders are crossing the world everyday, l think the 650cc version will be a winner for those that thinks it needs more power, cheers mate, ride safe, Neil. Just watched this again, Mark. Under 4,100 GBP in Thailand. The low-down torque would remind me of my old XT500. I went all over on that. Never thought I needed more power. It put out 29 bhp at the crank but was a bit lighter than the Scram. An alternative to the 411 in Thailand now is the Yamaha SR400 which puts out 24 bhp at the crank... but it costs a staggering 7,200 GBP. The price appears to have gone up recently because Japan has stopped making them. The 390 is still running well, though. Excellent review. 1990 [Nick J]

Thanks for the review, Mark! After a winter of weighing pros and cons of Scram vs Hunter, I ordered the Hunter to replace my 125 scooter I commute on. My typical trips are 15-25 miles here in South Bohemia, on beautiful countryside twisties, with some Budweis city traffic. Hunter pros: smaller, nimbler, sporty position suits my featherweight build well, alloys are easier to clean, tubeless and will last forever in real world Europe, fuel consumption, simpler bike, it looks very nice and beefy in person (I still can't wrap my head around how different it looks on video and pictures...) Bang for buck. The hunter is pretty much the cheapest thing out there, while it still is and looks rock solid. Even if they sell for half the price in India. Hunter cons: arguably less comfortable for longer journeys, rear suspension (for heavier people, I'm more than fine), lower top speed (if I ever leave my hilly backroad habitat, which is not very likely) Scram pros: (almost) touring capabilities with higher top speed and upright position. Some offroad capability (but I'll probably let the tractor field paths be, forrest roads are all paved here, due heavy logging, and we walk the beautiful forrests around here) The Scram allows for taller windshield. That star-warsey, purposefully ugly design. Scram cons: Taller, bigger bike, which makes it more difficult to manouever in front of shops, my workplace etc...although it's not actually any heavier than the Hunter! That star-warsey purposefully ugly design. Upright position combined with higher center of gravity is just not my style. Spoked wheels will deteriorate over time. So yeah, that's pretty much my thought process.

Great review Mark! Have not seen 1 review on the hunter Stanislav on the Tube yet. Not introduced in the lower 48 yet. Their unloading ALL the 2023 leftovers before the 450 or 650 hit the dealerships. Brought home a 22 Himalayan leftover 15 days ago here in Vegas so fat chance they will roll out newer models on the floor yet. Ride safe!

I had a test ride on the scram last year and was very impressed.Particularly how quickly it could get up to 70 mph.Its worth noting that there isn't a huge difference in weight between the Scram and Hunter. The Hunter is only 4 kg lighter than the Sram that comes in at 184kg.

I didn't bother service first 500 km because it is a 600 km transport fee to service it to nearest service center where i am, so i did the old press the i Icon button 30 seconds in trip B, switch off with key and keep holding 30 second, and switch back on 30 seconds hold till the spanner flashing icon on the tachometer disappears (service warning), as an enfield is like a 1980s bike you can change the oil and tighten the screws and lube your chain yourself, no need to send it for service to the official center that is an 'upsell moneymaker' where you pay more than you need for jobs any mechanic in your village can do

Great review Mark, I had a Himalayan for 3 1/2 years used it to commute in all weathers only issue I had was a headstock bearing around 18k. Never found the 411 lacking and performance was fine on the heaver Himalayan so with less weight the scram would be fine. Nice one keep it up.

That’s why they released the HNTR 350. Alloy rims, quicker steering, aimed at the urban rider. I would be happy with any of the Royal Enfield models. To me the Scram is the Swiss Army knife of bikes outside of a racetrack.

Look at getting the TEC cam. It's only about 150 I believe and with an exhaust it makes a noticeable improvement. Doesnt turn it into a rocket ship, but gives it some nice pep and gets up to speed and holds it there much better.

I like the look of the Scram, yes I’m an outlier! I’m guessing that with what we see for changes on both the Hunter and Super Meteor we will be seeing RE begin to do many changes to their bikes. Alas the lack of a center stand is shortsighted on their part. Center stands are a pet peeve of mine.

Thanks Mark... great coverage. Personally, I think they need to update this to reflect the improvements on the new Hunter. Tubeless tires, center stand, and black exhaust world likely help their sales of this model. Still, based upon the weight of this bike, it looks to be less power to weight ratio than the Hunter. They need to tune this up closer to 35 hp. Gord

I would have to argue that the Yamaha XT250 or whatever it's called in your country, Serow? The Yamaha would be a good other choice to compete with this bike. 130 lbs less weight to deal with and much more off road clearance and suspension travel I believe. Also the Yamaha is simple and goes 75mph. Long trips or higher speed comfort would go to the Royal Enfield no doubt. Luggage capacity is probably another plus on the R.E.

Its a great looking bike , much brtter than the himalayin . 2 things I'd replace right away , the tires. Get a good set of dual sport tires like Bridgestone or Dunlop. Second is the foot pegs , they're JUNK. For any dual sport riding get a good set of aftermarket motocross pegs , the wide spiked or cleated kind. Your feet will be much safer with them. Royal Enfield R&D department take note. The rest of the bike looks OK.

Great review, thank you! However, would it be possible to change the formula of your tests a bit especially when you have the bikes for a couple of weeks that you take them on a full day rides or even, when possible, a longer tour? I say this as it would give more insight into a machine’s capability’s. It’s great you test them all over the same route, as that creates a standard, but occasionally taking one (such as the scram) out over a longer route and filming it or even when possible a multi day ride would add a lot to your reviews and insight into the bikes. Is this a lot to ask, maybe yes and certainly not always possible, but a route across the Purbecks, Portland and further on filmed etc. may enhance things. Thank you again for your reviews. 👍

Great review Mark, I have heard that the Hunter is very much smoother than the Scram. Is that your experience please? There is also the rumour that the 411 engine will be replaced by a new 450cc. Have you heard this and if true, what would it do the the residual value of a scram?

I had a chance to ride a 2022 Himalayan and a 2023 Scram back to back yesterday. The Scram seemed smoother, is it the revised fuel map? I liked the Himalayan better for wind protection and it suits my style more, so that's for me. But, I'm hoping the map for 2023 is better. Does anyone know if that's true
