@@dogrescuer1321 improve your hip strenght and the timing. Your hand must start the switch from grip position to rack position BEFORE the kb goes above the bellybutton. The elbow of the swinging arm must be kept very close to the hip at all times (no pulling). The "t.rex" swing, as he named it (here we speak spanish and call it "swing vago") is a good pre-clean training when performed one hand.

Learnet the "soft style" from my dad in 1987 back in the USSR, learnt the "hard style" from a gym instructor in 2007. Initial reaction was - what the hell the Americans done to the classic move? Later I've appreciated both styles, and do them interchangeably. Thank you, Mark, for laying out and pointing the difference, most importantly different purposes of both, i.e. muscle load (hard style) vs. efficiency (girevoy sport). People sometimes forget that soft style is all about efficiently train in order to compete in Girevoy sport.

Could you provide a view directly from the front on the single arm versions. They say the single arm versions are supposed to be identical to the two arm versions except you are holding the bell with one arm, but that is physically impossible. Your loaded single arm is going to want to be vertical which will require offsetting the trunk a bit. More or less depending on the weight of the bell. I would like to see how you handle that.

Hi Mark, I've adopted your 6 day heavy/light KB program as of this week (already owned 12, 16, 24 KBs but usually just did swings, presses, cleans all in 1 session every time), made notes on all the warmup exercises, wactched the basic movement videos, got a 17 pound club to start 2H stuff but couldn't find a set of videos or playlist of recommended cooldown exersizes. Since you reserve 10 minutes for cooling down, what's a good set of recommended stretches in that time? Aside from the 3 minute neck stretch which sound like a good habit to do over morning coffee anyhow.

Okay I get the technical/stylistic difference. What are the differences in terms of results between the hard and the soft style?
@c4ffeineaddict
@c4ffeineaddict 3 жыл бұрын
Results would depend on what your goals are. Soft style is generally easier on the body and a more efficient movement allowing you to move the kettlebell around using less energy. It's meant for endurance exercises, like kettlebell sport. 1 hand sport/soft style swings are usually a practice or warm-up movement for girevoy snatch and long cycle. You can look for videos of those movements and you'll see this type of swing is used specifically for those movements. So if you're plan is to learn kettlebell sport movements, you would measure your results/progress w/those, not necessarily a sport swing vs a hard style swing.

Mark, can you let me know your thoughts on this, or if you've seen it before? I found out (too late, unfortunately) that when you're used to hard style and start to do soft/sport style, you need to decrease load and volume for a while due to the different load on the SI joint. I did not do that and ended up with sacroiliitis, which led to a muscle injury as well that lasted about 6 months. Have you encountered this before?

I use to be lighter when I was in the circus. And if you don’t recognize the reason for the length of the cowboy handmade jacket..., well... you should.

I don’t know if I’m stupid for caring but I thought the hard style swing looked badass and elegant and the soft style looked ridiculous.

i do not disagree. but the competition guys have figured out a super hero mythical level of strength endurance. so. i listen to all sides of everything. then we can sort out what works for who.

The sport, or soft style, looks a little silly with two handed swings... But it's pure poetry for cleans and snatches, in my opinion.

@KairosGymnos I like your spirit. To paraphrase Pavel: there is no room for softness with kettlebells. There is no soft style; only a hard style, and a *harder* style 😃

@KairosGymnos your comment is an interesting read. One might say you're getting into a bit of flow and having fun with it. And I'm here for all for that! One thing I don't enjoy about the traditional gym/ structured workout is that it feels like a third job you gotta do between your day job and home responsibilities. Totally get that with kettlebells and clubs there's more room for _play_ as it were than with traditional barbells or a treadmill. I too have a couple of playlists where the tempo is just right for this sort of stuff. One song in particular I use for a non-stop freestyle of rock-its (Side to side, front to back, hand to hand) and around the worlds. That's a treat for when I've done my programming for the day and still feel like I've got some gas in the tank. Re: the Pavel thing, I wasn't implying that sport style ( or flow ) wasn't a valid thing. I was making an attempt at humor to suggest he might say kettlebell sport is still serious work. This is why I keep the day job: these jokes don't always land 😅 The reference I was making was from Smple and Sinister where he says "we don't have a weak side and a strong side, we have a strong side and a stronger side" Cheers!

It seems like you probably didn’t need to inform me of your distaste for my jacket but you did go out of your way to do it. I’m not sure what essential information you are trying to convey. And based on the sentence structure of your comment, I know very well where you are from and so it seems only logical to extend my thoughts on your shoes. It’s not personal. It’s just continuing the idea you started of conveying thoughts which don’t really have a purpose. Cheers mate.
