Finally got the stove 8-5-24. It's a beauty! Works great, high quality! We still don't know what the delay was. The company did finally answer my emails saying they would check with their U.S. office, and get back to us. Not another word from them. Two weeks later I wrote to cancel the order. Then the next day it finally shipped. So we're happy, but you too might need to wait for one. I hope not!

Wonder what the delay was all about. I know Arnaud is just a one-man business so it may have to do with being very busy. Thanks for commenting

Thanks Mark for the video review. This looks like a nice contained stove and pot; probably not for backpacking, but rather a basecamp or canoe trip without portages.

Looks to be a great stove for situations where weight is not as much of a concern such as car or boat etc type transportation. I am personally a fan of efficient burning abilities such as this stove displays.

Yes, it is heavy for its size so having a conveyance would be almost essential. It is very efficient though. Thanks for commenting Lonnie

Thank you so much for this review. I am not in the market for a cooking stove, but i enjoy watching your videos anyhow. I usually go right away to your ...more...section for more information, because sometimes I have to use the transcript as well to keep up with you. Thank you again... wonderful video.

Not a bad price at all, and I love that rocket stoves will burn just about anything, but they need constant managing. When I used my large bucket style rocket stove the sticks in the feed were shooting flames out the side. I couldn't take my eyes off of it for a second. Maybe these smaller styles are a bit easier to manage. My Eco Zoom was like a bon fire. It had so much heat all around it my hands had to work quick. It was a cold night, so the heat felt good, but it needed constant tending. If my sticks were too long they would burn in half, and flaming sticks would fall on the ground. I like that this one you are reviewing is so complete with a pot. It is a great price.

Right on with the review Mark. I have one but don't carry it far. Although very efficient, a lighter and cleaner burning 'gasifier' like the Goshawk or Bushbuddy is my go to stove for the pack. I use the Arnaud on my patio and take it 'car' camping. About all that can be said other than the lighter options will do both 'car' and 'pack'. Humm!

I agree. Arnaud's FireTower is more of a backpacking stove. If he gets to make it tin titanium, it will be even better. Thanks for commenting

Just got this stove, first burn tonight. Seems to generate even heat, can control temperature by how much wood you put in. I get the feeling this is quite a bit better cooking stove than other twig stoves I’ve tried (Keith titanium, Firebox, or my much missed titanium bush box LF stolen off my bike). Somehow it feels more like an oven than a stove. Yes it’s heavy, yes I share the peeve about the top cup fitting too tight - but can flip the cup upside down and it works as a loose lid. Takes a while to cool but not too slow if you dump out coals. Probably good for cooking in the park.

A few nice improvements over the v1.0. Most notably the increase of chimney height and reduction of feed port inclination angle. Seems to be a well thought and decent stove. How much can you preload in the feed port and how long does it burn without tending to?
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft Жыл бұрын
So many factors in answering your question. Wood type, diameter, length and dryness are a few variables. I can say it does not require as much feeding of firewood as many other stoves of a similar size. Plus, keeping a hot fire going is easier due to the insulated walls. Thanks for commenting

I had this stove and sadly has to say it was a dissapointment. It was the stove where I had to blow the most air into to make it run. I then changed it, did change it into a afterburner, what helped. At last it was to large and heavy for me. I changed it into a picogrill hobo and I love that the most.

I have not had an issue with it functioning properly but it is heavy. I love the Picogrills but see them as something very different. Thanks for commenting

@@MarkYoungBushcraft for me the HOBO's Pico 85 and 239 offer anything the Kombius does, but on a cheaper, faster, lighter way. Tested a lot of wood rocket, hobo's and after burner stoves, in the end, the simple and reliable picogrill's did offer the best. I love the 239 and use it in winter times (summer we have most of time fire bans) or spring. They ignite fast, burn clean and the 239 is also a good source of heat in the winter.

Hmm interesting. I wonder if it's weight and efficiency are worth it over a good gasifier stove like say the bushbuddy and the pot + lid it fits in (0.7 pounds and 1.1 liter capacity/space). Seems to me it would be better suited for a group and not an individual. Really would only work in a camp where you are not moving much, not on the go for a lunch break due to the cooldown time. Still might be great for motorcycle touring so I will keep it in mind thanks!
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft Жыл бұрын
I don't see it as being more weight efficient than a titanium Bushbuddy. It is quite heavy. What I do think is that it would be much easier to use in cold weather and maybe with damper wood. Also, not as much feeding of sticks. Thanks for commenting

Morning Mark! Geeze, seems no matter how early I get up on a Saturday morning, you’re already here. 🙂 Looks like a quality item, but I always dislike this type because of how narrow they are. I’ve had a couple pots tip over on stoves, so…. But this whole rocket stove idea, I feel, is over hyped. Of course it’s nice to not have smoke, but I think the efficiency is mostly lost by the amount of heat, and the speed it comes out. If you look at the flames, they’re shooting out all over the place, and being lost to the environment. Also there is no way a pot could absorb that much heat, that quickly. So in the end, yes it’s fast, but efficient? I don’t think so. Most quality stick stoves produce very little smoke once they’re hot too, btw. Just the opinion of a stubborn, getting old, man.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft Жыл бұрын
You are right on Jim with relation to small rocket stoves. From my understanding, they work best when they are much larger, taller, well insulated and have larger cooking vessels on top. It is hard to transfer all that to a compact stove. Thanks for commenting

do you think the maker can put air holes round the top like in a casifier stove??? to make it even more better
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft Жыл бұрын
I have considered that before. I am not an engineer (I know one I will ask), but I am thinking the higher velocity created by the chimney effect might work against the gasification and secondary combustion principle. Thanks for commenting

Kombuis is a Dutch word, meaning a ship's kitchen (galley), so I imagine it's pronounced the Dutch way with a Flemish accent. In Dutch, "ui" is a diphthong, meaning it's a sound that changes as you're pronouncing it. Within "kombuis" specifically, you'd use the pronunciation from "buis" (tube). Wiktionary has a decent rendition of "buis" in Dutch, and if you want to replicate it, what you could try as a native English speaker, is starting with the "u" from "underground", then pursing your lips like you're about to kiss someone, whilst maintaining the pitch of your vocal chords. It's a little different in Dutch and (presumably) many Flemish dialects (we don't actually purse our lips as it combines badly with the "s" that follows, causing a weird whistling sound), but this should get you pretty close.
