A good and equitable test. At first glance, the Uberleben seems to have a superior design but upon more reflection I personally believe that the Emberlit is the superior stove due to a slower more controlled burn rate. In actual cooking other than simple water heating, one typically requires a slower rate of burn rather than all out inferno. A lower temperature is often preferred to accomplish a preferred level of simmer, frying, or even baking. Enjoyed watching and a thumbs up for the video, of course. I see your channel is at 6K. Awesome. I hope that the channel continues to grow for you even more rapidly but above all, I also hope that sharing the videos with your viewers will continue to be fulfilling for you as well. God bless.

It would be great if the stove could be equipped with a damper similar to what can be done withe the Firebox stove using the ash plate. That way you could maximize air flow for getting a fire going (especially with slightly damp wood) or boiling water quickly. Then the damper could be closed for conserving fuel and not scorching food...as I have done on occasion. Thank you for being a part of my KZfaq journey Lonnie. I truly appreciate it. Merry Christmas to you and Connie

@@MarkYoungBushcraft I bet someone handy in the workshop could rig that up pretty easily! Open up the slots the base-plate's tabs fit into to fit a second sheet of metal beneath the original, with holes that match the original base-plate. Use smaller tabs that enable it to slide forward or back to close off the holes. Something protruding out the front to use as a handle?

Seems like if I wanted controlled heat I'd get a good hot blaze with my initial fuel and once I had good a coal bed (and a pot of boiled water 😏) I'd control the heat for cooking by adding small bits of new fuel as needed...

Great comparison between both stoves Mark, I think when a stove burns out quicker it initially burns with a stronger flame from start to finish. The advantage i find with slower burning stoves is that it allows you to let the flame part boil water quicker and the longer burning coals are nicer to cook on . Thanks for sharing

Another factor was the fact that "X" amount of wood in the larger stove will have more vacant air space around the wood than in a smaller stove. Thats to say that if one can hold a pint of wood (I use "pint" for volume rather than weight) and another can hold two pints of wood, then one will be solidly packed whilst the other has more vacant air space and thus will have moe ability to burn through its wood supply much faster than the one in which air space is not so freely avaliable. Good little exeriment Mark. Nice one!
@MarkYoungBushcraft

You are most right sir. The slightly larger stove would have more room for air to flow around the wood. In truth though, the difference was less than .25". Still it likely added to the overall speed. Thank you for commenting

Once you use these things enough, gasification stoves and standard wood stoves you come to realize one thing. You need it to boil water within 10min but you need it to burn on a single fuel source for 20mins. Best one I’ve found and I’ve tried almost every single brand is Emberlit. Controlled but efficient and when vertical stacked with dry wood will boil and cook with almost no smoking. For just boiling water I’d say Uber but anything else, definitely Emberlit even above firebox

You can manage that to some degree by the size of fire in the unit. If you want a fast boil get lots of wood going in it and keep it topped, if you're wanting to cook let it die down a bit and limit the amount you feed into it. PS not all backpack meals are YUK but I know what you mean about enjoying "real" food in the wild. ;-)

Interesting side by side comparison Mark. Does the kettles might influence boil time, could be interesting to retake the test by inverting the kettles And see If the Uberleden still have the faster boil time And If the difference is the same. Do you think that the fact the panels of The Uberleden are stamped with a kind of crest will eventually help to reduce the wrapping? Both have interesting design And pros & cons but one point you didn't cover is the price difference that might influence the choice when you are on a budget. Wow. Lot of ideas for me to consider. I believe that Emberlit added the punched shapes to their side plates to help with warping. As far as kettles are concerned, changing them up might make a small difference. I chose these two kettles as they were the closest in size. I probably could have mentioned price but it is so variable between Canada and the US that I thought I would leave that to the buyer. I Would be happy with either stove if given one as a gift. Excellent comparison. I see after a quick search that the Emberlit is an average of $19-$20 more on the big retail sites. If I did not already own an Emberlit, this would carry at least some weight when considering which to purchase. BUT... having made and used many hobo stoves, I know there is a fine balance between enough holes and too many holes. I think the Emberlit may have a slight edge in the long run. Could be my own bias though :-). Either way Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Sorry for any confusion. Uberleben is an Smerican owned company but their Stoker stove is made off-shore. Emberlit it completely American owned and makes all their products in the US

I'll recommend the Emberlit instead of this copy cat knockoff that is an inferior stove.

One dozen or 12 eggs. To me one has way to many holes and one needs a few holes. Otherwise it's just personal taste in the long run.

An easy way to reduce the bottom air intake is to take the top from a tin can and place it on the base of the Uberleben. The can top takes virtually no room when packed in the Uberlebun stove pouch.

"The Chinese". What?! Uberleben is an American company based in Idaho. The Stoker is made in the USA.

I just read your link. Their fire starters are made in Austria, spoons made in Asia and other products like the stove are made in the USA. Love your work but this is not a Chinese product.
