MARK, Duane Allman used the BB box pretty much only when playing without the slide. Try make a video lesson about the allman brothers melodies being applied to the BB box. Ed King was a master at creating hook riffs and melodic solos he is in the Gilmour camp of chord tones melodic lead guitar and trick in the bag licks

People talking always about Ed King and Allen Collins but they forgot the master of all Gary Rossington. I know every Lynyrd Skynyrd Fan had his own favorite Mines was Gary and together with Ronny , Artimus, and all back up singers they make Lynyrd Skynyrd a Great band. Also Lynyrd Skynyrd 2 with Jonny van Zand they make good music like the Last Rebel and many more. Dont forget that the crowd like it 😘

Excellent lesson but mostly a great reporting on this now last and final original Lynyrd Skynyrd founding member of this classic rock band, MZ! The true background aspects of their tragic plane crash really make this sad day in R&R (the afternoon the music died) even more tragic as this band had already risen from the cheap seats and deserved to be transported in a modern jet with experienced pilots and ground crew (not to mention fuel gauges and fillings) but instead wound up in this death trap encouraged by the band's leader Van Sant. There are a couple of very accurate YT videos that cover the true story worth watching but what a super concert these guys put on especially during their earlier heyday!! Jim C.

Garry not Linda. Hey Jim, to add to what you said about the plane, in the biography I read it said they had the new jet. If I recall correctly there was even a picture of it but it wasn't serviced and ready to go. They had to make a choice, the old plane or bus? Like Rick Nelson, it was supposed to be the last ride in the old plane. Sadly, it was.

Gary Rossington was at LEAST as good a slide player as Duane Allman, and in my opinion a stronger overall guitar player and songwriter.. And one of the most overlooked guitarists of all time the late great Ed King could actually blow them all off the stage playing slide. Also I think it's a real question; who was picking what up from who? They were all playing the same clubs around the same time. In Gene Odom's book he tells a story about when the Skynyrd band used to open for the Allman Joys they would play whatever the Joys new song was during the first set, even if they had just heard it once. They told them it was because they admired them so much, but it was really to show them how simple thier songs were.
@yinoveryang4246
@yinoveryang4246 Жыл бұрын
If you think Rossington was consciously aware of “chord tones”. while composing this solo you’re headed up the wrong path. No one who thinks and analyses music in that reductive way can really make effective melodies. More likely a simple process of experimentation and natural musicality would’ve brought him there.
@MarkZabel
@MarkZabel Жыл бұрын
Of course it was that way for Gary. You've got to build that intuition. BUT, instead of wasting a ton of time, learn a bit and target chord tones. Too many players who noodle endlessly and aimlessly.
@samruhman1555
@samruhman1555 9 ай бұрын
Develop a melody, shaped around chord tones. It's important to know theory if you want to really be a well rounded musician, but it's equally important to know when to throw it all out the window and just PLAY, then you can slowly fade theory back in if you know there's something specific coming up. Then, you just keep developing the Melodic idea you have going on
