Mate, if you knew the first thing about big game fishing, you'd know that a caught fish is any fish where the angler or his deckhand grabs hold of the leader. The addition of putting a tag into the fish makes this marlin well and truly 'caught'.

The survival rate of tagged marlin is in the vicinity of 90%, so long as the fish is handled correctly and a circle hook is used. If your marlin are dieing from exhaustion, I suggest you take a look at your fishing technique...

Gotta watch out for those Sharts. Especially if you've had a hot curry the night before. One minute you're trying to squeeze out a cheeky one hoping no one will notice, the next you're hunting for a new pair of underpants. Thanks for your concern...

Give the guy one thing, with legs hanging in the water, with a fighting marlin giving out signals to other predators around, that's balls in my book, with myself being a scuba diver and spearfisherman. I was told by a few mates one time when they caught a black marlin, brought back and ready for the bbq that it was the best eating compared to other marlin. Well they were right, still have memories from that feed.

Hi Ultimate F.Show - I watch this in the UK! You deffo got a ripper of a show!! Forgive if I am wrong.....although I have been to Oz a few times but isn't NZ in the Tasman part of the Pacific which as far as I know is quite a cool part of the world...yet you have such a wide variety of fish..Marlin to Great Whites etc..or have I got the geography all wrong here...which I may have done because I was lousy at it at school!! Beautiful shots though - what a show - keep it coming!!!

THANK GOD that fish was not hunted by a huge shark like some videos I have seen on here, now that would have been a mess all in all! COOL VIDEO! Dude is crazy.
@mickcarson8504
@mickcarson8504 2 жыл бұрын
Sure he is, crazy. A shark as we know are not as fast when hunting. They go for easy meal and the guy on the surfboard IS easy meal with his legs into water. Perfect 'grab and pull' to begin with, then grab the fallen body into water and.. TA TA. At least the lazy beast saved its energy chasing a marlin when there as a couple of legs 'duck-sitting' in the water. I mean, wtf guys, are you that stupid? This happens in the surfing world where surfers are attacked by the legs or arms as 'easy catch' (mostly before a surfer glides a wave), and you don't know this thing in the video can happen the same? Are you simply stupid? Leave the sea life alone, evil people! 😠

Get your facts straight, without recreational fishers lobbying governments and fighting the huge commercial operators who plunder the world's fish stocks to put dinner on YOUR plate, the world's oceans would be far, far worse off than they are today. And why put the Marlin on a pedestal due to it's 'Majesty' as you called it - what makes it any more special than an Anchovy? It's brain behaves pretty much the same way. A clear cut case of 'Unconditional Attraction to Charismatic Megafauna'...

@efooty09 The chemical reaction between the hook and the salt water means that it quickly corrodes. The Marlin would most likely have ejected the hook within a week. It's normal practice to cut away hooks still in fish, so long as they're hooked in the corner of the mouth as this one clearly was.

@Eric2827 As I've said before, the chemical reaction between the hook and the salt water means that it quickly corrodes out of the fish. It's completely normal practice to cut away hooks, so long as the fish is hooked in the corner of the mouth as this one clearly was. I suggest you stick to feeding sausages to ducks (I see you felt worthy of posting such amazing footage on your own page), and lay off the tough talk, you stupid, weak failure of a human being.

Yep....I think what's left for someone to do is swim out with a deep sea fishing rod in their hand and hook a Marlin. I have to say, man you really need to have to BALLS to do this. The ocean is a Gorgeous place but by God I wouldn't stick my feet in the water or even be on a surfboard, LET ALONE BE FIGHTING A STRUGGLING FISH that sends out stress signals!!! lol

He didn't "catch" it, he only hooked it and reeled it in towards him (or him towards it;) Catching it implies he pulled it into or onto the boat/surfboard, which he did not do.

granted I probably overreacted there but, your method of catching a fish on a rod&reel is irrelevant. the animal is exhausted, typically I hang around to make sure they're alright. I have seen marlin die, and we hauled them in to consume. every inch used in some form or another. I just felt like it was a bit of a reach here. I genuinely enjoyed all the videos it was simply the comments that bugged me. I can't judge a person based off either one I must admit

Recreational Fishing is such an inhumane sport. Why would you put such a majestic fish such as a marlin through 90 minutes of fighting just to let it go in the end? You call poachers and other animal’s killers evil and bad, but you’re on par with them.

I still disagree. It could get off the hook and get away. You're entitled to your opinions but in "My" opinion, not caught. Reeled in mostly and tagged yes, but not caught IMO. Deal with it.
