Twenty years ago, Marlon Williams joined the school choir when he was 10, to get out of science. Fast forward to 2015, he won both Breakthrough Artist and Best Male Solo Artist at the NZ Music Awards. Country music is his thing. He’s good too. Just ask Willie Nelson, Matthew McConaughey or Australian star Paul Kelly. Marlon can sing. And write songs -catchy ones. Next week he will launch his 3rd studio album in Melbourne. It gave me a great excuse for a sit down with the Kai Tahu, Ngāi Tai crooner with the cute dance moves.

That's Moana Maniapoto-Jackson. She's a pretty famous AoNZ singer in her own right. Long before Marlon was in short shorts 😂

Great interview Moana. What a beautiful man with a beautiful voice. I heard traces of Elvis, which I'm sure would please Marlon.

Watching this, because I love Marlon, and a KZfaq ad comes on, using Dragon’s ‘I’m Still In Love With You’ as its music, and I’m thinking, yep, ‘Anything could Happen’…

Amazing interview with such an intriguing artist. Love the question “do you need to have traumatic experiences to drive your song writing”. His response “I don’t think so, I think you need to be empathetic, you need to be able to understand what causes people pain and joy. To be a great songwriter you don’t necessarily need lived experience but you need to be open and to feel.

Thanks so much for that interview. It's very pleasant to listen to him talk just as much as listen to his music. Ever so charming and smiling. Convinced he could make a considerable acting career - needs just finding the right characters to play, maybe something a bit weird... Looking forward to see what future holds for him. 🤩

@@doriangray7405 nonsense, his sexuality is his own business and not to be defined by others.
@eoinc9511
@eoinc9511 Жыл бұрын
@@doriangray7405 I’m going to say this once for you, I hope it helps you going forward. Sexuality is fluid. You can be straight and then be gay, and vice versa. You can be straight and femme. You can be gay and butch. You can be all of these things, and then be something different later. You seem desperate to create hard and immutable definitions of sexuality that cannot be changed. What if he’s in the closet and didn’t feel like coming out in that interview? What if he’s not sure? What if he had a gay fling but decided he was “more straight” afterwards? There are literally thousands of variable possibilities, and you are in a KZfaq comments section saying he has to be ONE THING ONLY and it’s a defining characteristic that must be adhered to by your standards. If you are still quite young, I understand why you may feel this way - especially if you are gay. You may feel like he’s stealing something from you. He isn’t. You need to relax your opinions and remember that the world isn’t defined by your sensibilities. Good luck.
