I mean how would you feel if you had to share a husband and compete for his time, love , and attention? Polygamy isn’t something that works well. It complicates relationships and causes jealousy.

@@PinkRose0910 I understand how hard it would be to share a man especially when it's four women vying for one man's attention. However, even before Shiyi married into that family he didn't give any of them any attention because of their antics. He knew they didn't care about him only what he could do for them and their families. They wanted to use him even down to his late wife. It wasn't until they started to see how much he changed after marrying Shiyi and the fact that she didn't allow them to exploit her or the Xu family did they take notice. Now all of a sudden concubine Wen wants him to visit for her birthday. Just like Liangfeng she's blaming Shiyi for his actions and it only escalates from there...if Wen took the time to get to know Lingyi then things might've been different but she put the needs of her family above him so he remained indifferent towards her. In the beginning I sympathized with all of the concubines except Liangfeng...lol but as time went on and their motives were exposed I stopped feeling sorry for them because they made their choice. Neither one of those women tried to get to know him and they were with him for years. His late wife didn't care if or when he spent time with them. She even gave him a concubine even if it wasn't on the up and up. It wasn't until he fell in love with Shiyi did they actually start to care because it affected their bottom line.

You're intentionally missing the plot because of your bias. shonte lagrone explained it well, but it's really easy to know if you watched the series. You, apparently, did not, so don't judge. You don't understand what's going on.

@@shontelagrone8713 Well said! I've learned from reading a lot of comments on C-Dramas that the haters don't even watch what they're commenting on. They see a clip and criticize based on modern times and not even knowing the plot.

@@ariellajasmine oh yes and it's so frustrating because it's hard to have a conversation with people who haven't watched the entire series but judge things based on the current times. I love period dramas especially Cdramas/Kdramas. The Sword and the Brocade is one of my favorites. The actors were spectacular especially the ones I loved to hate....lol

In this drama, Shiyi is a teenager, about 14/15 years old whereas the marquis is 15 years older than her. In real life, Seven Tan is 31 and Wallace Chung is 46. Perfect match as they both looked much younger than their actual age.
