In this AMBW family vlog........We decide to head to the outer banks in North Carolina. Things begin to get stressful as we spend a large amount of time looking for hotels to book and end up not really getting anytime to relax. Tension is in the air. After coming back from the pier, Joe comments on something that I found offensive. Watch to see what happens. What do you guys think?

I don’t think Joe meant it like that, I’m pretty sure he was just acknowledging he’s baby is changing colors. Mixed baby can come as so many different shades. He probably just saying how it’s more noticeable that he hands are 2 different colors. It’s not ignorant. He can think it’s beautiful and just making a comment on it. He didn’t say anything thing wrong, it’s also his baby. If it was some random or grown black person it would be different.

I agree he just didn't know. He's learning. I'm done with this episode. She's more color conscience than he is. Show some respect for him as a father who has a right to observe and check out his son. I like your family dynamic and you're a good mom, but not when you disrespect your husband the way you often do. There was a more respectful way to educate him instead of dumbing him down.

It’s a shame that, despite Alana breaking it down in the video, the people in these comments are still not cognisant enough in 2022 to understand what the issue was with what he said, and WHY it needed correcting. Smh. There is literally no dignity in this race.

She has trauma associated with the comment he made. But he only acknowledged the baby's color because she did. & that's how he noticed the same thing she noticed: that the baby's getting darker. It just triggered her, but you gotta be careful not to take it out on the wrong person.

Alena and Joe, I LOVE your family! Alena, with all due respect, I don't believe Joe meant ANY harm whatsoever. He was simply making an observation. You know you both will have totally different perceptions based on each of your lived experiences. When you enter into a relationship with someone of a different race, both parties will have to be educated. You both have to be patient with each other. You can be right and just BE, without shoving your 'rightness' down the other person's throat. You were WAY too hard on Joe and he humbled himself and took it because he loves you. You should give him CREDIT for his humility and willingness to learn. We, as black women, need to learn when to hold our peace, when to speak and HOW to speak. Pray about it. God will guide you. You are a good Mom and it is clear Joe is a good Dad. May God continue to bless your beautiful family!

If I had to guess she was probably always felt like an outsider and always wanted to be different to stand out. At Any rate I pray for this family and just hope that they would know their worth in Christ.

No, you don't know her experiences as a very dark skin black woman like Elena or me. You're not as dark or black as we are, how would you know our plight. You dont tell her what she can or can't do. You do not get to speak for her. Mind your business, it's her marriage, her family worry about yourself and stop gaslighting and shaming beautiful Black women like Alena and how we navigate their world as a heavily discriminated beautiful, intelligent, charming amazing and hardworking very dark skin black woman. You do not speak for her.

I know I'm 7 years late but I've been going back and watching your old videos to see how your family/ KZfaq started out, and I'm not gonna lie this video shocked me to an extent. But it also showed how far you 2 have come. How you reacted to him making a quite innocent observation. It would have been different if he was talking about a random black person that he saw on the street, but in this case he was referring to his child. There's nothing wrong with him saying his child is changing in colour because of the sun, or as he ages. It wasn't necessarily an insult and you were the one that brought up colour, so is it only a problem when he talks about skin colour? However he is married to a woman of colour. To be honest I think it was more racially motivated on your part to point out race. He didn't mention the baby's race at all, just talking about skin. Black comes in many shades it's perfectly fine for you to talk about black people but as soon as he made an observation (that wasn't even racially motivated)about his mixed raced child you made him feel really bad. I know you thought you were educating him but instead I think you just made him feel unnecessary guilt for an innocent observation. He may have acted like you taught him something only because he didn't want the situation to escalate. I pray that this is no longer a regular occurrence that happens in you guy's relationship because this is very unhealthy reaction on your part

Wow. I dont think he meant it in a derogatory way. He was just making an observation. Actually, you were the one to bring up the baby's color.. Of course, we as blacks are used to what we look like, but he isn't. He's learning. Its unresonable to expect him to say what a black person would say. He isn't black! Personally, I would not have been offended by that in the least. Its not my place to say how to speak to your husband but, you raked him over the coals on camera.. He took it well though. Calm and understanding.

@Lin Dc Understand where you're coming from, but as a black person I have consistently experienced women of darker complexion getting offended by anything dealing with skin colour. I've had girls through out my school years single me out because I'm lighter complexion or treat me different because I'm lighter. They were always the one to bring up colour in every conversation they could . I never once saw the need to do that. Because I knew we were the same race just different shades. It's oK to observe, or have unresolved trauma, but when you project that onto other people then you become the problem. I really can't stand the light skin vs dark skin debates. It's just another thing to separate us. We judge each other by shades sometimes more than other races do

@@pharaoh6977 Thank you for a sensible reply. You are right , it seems to me such debates happen a lot in the African American community though they say Asians are very conscious of skin colour and discriminate. As an Asian , within our community be in Indian, Filippino etc, it isnt as big an issue as it seems to be in the African American community. Those of us outside the community find it hard to even navigate this with Black prople some objecting to being called Black , preferring to be referred to as POC, some even objecting to African American. Asians see ourselves as POC too but some African Americans find that offensive as to them it is a term exclusively meant for their community. It divides not just your community but also builds walls with other communities.

I thought this was really funny.. You married Joe different race different color this is his first baby with someone not of his race. (well we are all of the human race🤣)I have been black my whole life was married to someone same as me. When our babies were born I did the same exact thing Joe did. I was in awe of the little human we created, noticed the differences in the complexion and my Babies were very light at birth anyways… Ms Alena, we all have sensitive issues about what people of other races assumes or says about us because of our beautiful skin.. but Joe is not one of the those people. I get where you are coming from…We are not different species but we are different. Special…but different. As for the ears we always check because that color at the tip of a newborn will tell you how light or dark the baby will be. Long winded I know but I am a grandma 👵🏽 we love to talk. Your cultures are different …gently educate him on things, and be aware that were you in Korea you might have been misunderstood too by something said innocently. Remember you two won’t always have the same opinions you are not clones of each other… however keep up the good work and I pray for long happy Blessed life for you both and another son, but if it’s another girl … God has his reasons. One Love my children🙏🏽❤️

Commendable. I am white. One of my bff is black. We don't see color. But our hearts. We celebrate how God made us unique whether black or white. Thete no shame in that. Love the video, but I felt Joe was receiving a verbal beat down regarding what’s offense to black people. I’m black and I just think the conversation could have been better. I really don’t believe Joe meant any harm by saying what he said, but I do think that Alena could have educated him differently

I love this family. Joe is a very good man, husband and father. Joe is very patient with Alena because sometimes we can observe a lack of education the way she sometimes talks to him and her tough gestuality in different videos. For sure he teaches her a lot and helps her to heal. Woman never forgets the blessing husband you get and take more care of him because he did what black man was unable with you. He never said something racist about your child, you just have to heal woman. luckily you ll grow with Joe. God bless this beautiful family.

Lol everything she say that black ppl don’t do we actually do it. I don’t think around the time she spent time with a lot of black ppl that have kids so she probably just don’t know we do look at the Completion & how the baby going to look when he/she is born. But I love their family I’m actually going back to watch the videos I haven’t seen yet that’s y I’m here now.

I am Asian. I notice Black people dont mind Black people saying these things but if any of us otherd say anything remotely " sensitive" even if its not meant derogatory in the least, it gets taken the wrong way. About skin and hair. Even saying a Biracial.child resembles his African parent more is taken as negative. The message I am getting is that you arent comfortable with these traits that are part of your race, that is why this reaction. So what is wrong with being seen as Dark? There are good looking dark skinned people too.

There r things you will not understand about others not of your race- food choices, skin color/changes, hair styling/texture , language, traditions etc.. and that's ok in everyday life w/ friends, co-workers etc.. ( For the most part). However, in an intimate relationship, a marriage, it can really be challenging when you don't understand what/what not to say to your spouse of a different race and culture about matters involving race and culture. I don't think Joe would've brought up ANY of this about the baby's hands ESPECIALLY ON CAMERA if his wife hadn't. He seems too quiet for confrontations even potential ones. It seems he brought it up because his wife did. I'm sure it was obvious his color was coming in all along. I don't understand why SHE brought it up on camera and at that point. Why? I'm confused. She educated him and that's fine so that in the future he doesn't make those kinds of comments. However, she was TOO harsh on him imo. He, ( it appears) was following her lead ( as he usually does) when he commented. It is likely he had little exposure to black or other cultures prior to meeting her. They may have fallen in love with little awareness and education on his part about others. That "ignorance " on his part may not TOTALLY be his fault. He is Not black and wouldn't necessarily know anything about the differences in black skin, tones etc.. how inappropriate a comment it was etc..Idk, just speculating. He does owe it to himself, his wife and children though to REALLY know, really educate himself, moving forward about black roots and culture. I think he will think twice before making comments such as this again. I also hope she does too. Embarrassing her husband over something he doesn't have FULL knowledge ( if any) about was so cringey. If he had FULLY known, I don't think he would have said it. He seems mindful and sensitive in that way. And then it got even stranger and more complicated. Just when the education and verbal lashing was nearly over, she began talking about the ear tips, fingernails etc that black people focus on. Well, that's just as bad for her to bring up and for black people to focus on. Why would they say EVEN that much. They're just as bad, just as ignorant IMO. Why not just let ALL brown babies be babies. Who cares about the ear, finger and hand colors? I don't think any other baby is scrutinized like a brown baby is regarding color, and brown people start it!!

why is he the one to change, i mean ,first of all "who is black"really, did u come from black,my ancestors came from AFRICA,they didn't come from "BLACK" we as women need to read more talk less listen with our hearts, love ourselves be comfortable with our skin.. heal from traumas..lesrn how to ask a question so we'll know where another person is coming from ..since when different shades of skin should be offended to speak about😢,it is unfair to project your opinions and feelings using other africans mixed africans as examples to what we don't or would not do,it would be best if you pnly speak on behalf of yourself,i watched nearly all,and yes wonderful family, however early up joe actually smiled,as the years went on the smiles became less he preayed more,i remember him talking about sanity,i honestly believe we need to credit the roles of fathers everywhere more,i will say cudos because while having extended family is good lets be real there are always problems, and thats real talk,am sorry we can meet up for dinner come over spend the weekend, vacation, but my home is my santuary,my kids,my husband,my creator, mother earth the universe, thats our space, however thereight be cases where one may fall on short times, other than that, sorry probably am just different,i wish them all the best prayers and love,be happy,be wise, yearn for knowledge, peace and serenity from whithin then let it flow outwards

I get it. He might not have meant it that way but those kind of comments should be pointed out because if not he could make his child feel uncomfortable if he says that to them because they have different complexions. What he said was ignorant but he didn’t know that it could be taking in a negative way. Her reaction was a bit much but I understand where she’s coming from.

It’s a shame that, despite Alana breaking it down in the video, the women in these comments are still not cognisant enough in 2022 to understand what the issue was with what he said, and WHY it needed correcting. Smh. There is literally no dignity in this race.

I can’t believe the amount of “women” in these comments (all of them but one comment) speaking on this authentic relationship; just shows how very few of you are open and honest with your husband about how you feel. Hence why your “men” don’t respect you. Many of you in this demographic I can guarantee do not even have a husband to begin with, but you sit there judging this woman’s relationship! Get yourself a man and let him say whatever he wants about your skin, or whatever and if it don’t sit right with you, you keep quiet and let him go on and his words can marinade in your spirit and cause resentment and all its fruits... Don’t speak up when something don’t sit right because y’all are a bunch of old ass pick mes, and y’all don’t even have the education this woman has to even begin to KNOW when something is ignorant or wrong and needs to be rectified, or highlighted and corrected. Alana is top tier - she holds herself highly and won’t leave her values on the ground for any man to walk over unlike all you desperate heaux in these comments. Joes respects Alana… now does your husband respect you and where is he now? Tf.

Having a "husband" is noT a fuggin' flex, and one's book smarts have Nothing to do with "life/street smarts/common sense"! You sound like one of those tired, misguided Heaux 🤡 you wrongfully accused the sensible commenters of being, and if my spidey sense is Right (and it stays on point) you're likely the one who is not wise enough to recognize the Difference between lovingly correcting someone vs. harshly berating them in public-and no doubt you are most certainly a fan of dating "Tyrones", and that would very well explain your overbearing, highly stressed, being-very-loud-yet-very-wrong demeanor that you chose project upon those who were Rightfully and Helpfully advising Mrs. Lee not take things out of proportion and to maintain a kind, respectful tone with her spouse that they generally have in most of their other wonderful videos!
