As a kid I had no idea it was meant to be a comedy and thought it was just a horror, the alien designs are one of the creepiest of any film.

I remember my grandparents having a VHS of it and thinking it was gonna give me nightmares Then one day my grandma and I actually watched it and I was bored out of my mind.

That scene where Lisa Marie's character bites off Short's finger freeeeeaked me out a child lol

It's not just influence - It's a direct homage. The movie itself is a huge love letter to the sci-fi b-flicks of the 1950-1960s. So Elfman had to reflect it in his music - and he did.

What we do need is a new Mars Attacks! movie not a remake or a reboot just a whole new movie

Is there REALLY dark humor in Mars Attacks ?

@@user-nw3qf4xf2eOh absolutely. Dark humor is the concept of making light of a serious subject matter or situation. Good example off the top of my head in this movie: The Martian Ambassador and its bodyguards kills the entirety of congress on live television in a gruesome fashion. Mass Murder in graphic display. Everyone is reacting in disgust and horror to this massacre. Meanwhile Natalie Portman dryly says, "Guess it wasn't the dove" and an old lady in a nursing home points at the tv, yells out "They blew up congress!" and bursts out laughing. It's making light of the entire situation, and makes what would normally be considered a gruesome scene actually quite funny. That's dark humor, and Mars Attacks is full of situations like that.

They're an icon trio. There's nothing wrong with any of them. Burton's best films are the ones that have both Depp and Carter in it.

@@rileysjonger4192 the actors aren't the problem, it's more the general tone which feels always the same now. Sleepy Hollow was the last original, then every subsequent film imitates Sleepy Hollow.
