This is very good update on the status of the Marshfield Mall. Used to visit the mall as a kid when I was living in northern Wisconsin when it was Northway Mall. Wausau, WI. demolished its downtown mall the Wausau Center Mall 2 years ago. That was also a nice mall too.

I never knew of this mall until now, I went to the Wausau, Stevens Point malls, and both Wisconsin Rapids malls many times as my relative live there.

I’m still kicking myself for not going sooner. I was in Marshfield for a wedding in 2009 and didn’t think to checkout the mall.

When you were there it was being remodeled. It is now fully opened with new stores and more stores opening up there soon. Its also called Marshfield Towne Center.

I remember all those. Growing up in the area, was turning 4 when it opened. Hobby shop and Jailhouse were my favorites.

The food court was never more than those three stores. Radio shack used to be down by furniture and appliance mart, and the shop with the red signage display used to be a sam goody. After all the national brand shops left in the late 00s, A bunch of local ran business took over. I remember there being a candle store with an adult party favor/smoke shop in the back down by Jc Penney a sports collectable store, and a rc car/trading card store that would do lots of Friday night magic.

My memory: When our eldest daughter was about 9 years old they held a spelling bee in the Northway Mall. By eligibility, she was probably the youngest contestant (I think they covered 3 grades). She kept making it to the next round and finally the pressure got to ME and I took my son, 2 years her junior, for a walk. SHE WON! She always had the biggest beaming smile in the world! Another memory: My son wanted a futon and K-Mart had them on sale (with mattress). They had one on display at the entrance (now the entrance to Furniture and Appliance Mart. Price was $179, I believe. Took a ticket, went to the service counter. They scanned the ticket and said it would be $119. Shocked, I said, "No, the price in the add and on the display is $179." They called the manager. He scanned the ticket and said the price that came up was $119 so that is what they would have to sell it to me for. In case you are wondering why K-Mart went out of business.

Fun video. That mallwalk clip is a great find! It's a reminder of the value in filming malls today that haven't been recorded yet. Regency Mall in Racine doesn't look too bad at the moment, at least relative to how dead it already was a decade ago. They added carpeting and covered up the empty storefronts with historical photos of Racine.

Thank you! Yeah, the photographs did their job of distracting me from thinking about the number of empty tenants.

Just was at Fox River mall, in Appleton WI. Anchors doing well as well as long standing stores I remember as a kid. Must be an exception rather than a rule

It's common with many malls. Some die, some survive, it all depends on the area.

Brilliant video! Yeah, the Marshfield Mall was always kinda second rate compared to the Rapids Mall or Centerpoint back in it's heyday, or the Wausau Center- though I suppose Marshfield is technically doing better as it's still standing. The others can't claim the same. The original "food court" was mostly walled off and empty. World Buffet had a door facing it, and then the vending machines had the rest. Mighty depressing for a "food court." I only wish I had taken more photos or video when I was there last. Well, that and I would love to know what happened to that 70's clock!

The reason this mall died is because they changed them astronomical amounts of rent and had extreme expectations

I must be one of the few people who likes shopping in malls. Omaha has some real good ones, as does La Crosse, WI.

Looks like the University Mall in Tampa. As soon as you got to the next mall in Brandon, you will see that it is booming. One problem. The crime followed the crowd.
