It’s a limpkin, they are not really native to our area. They showed up after the apple snails started taking over as that is what they mainly eat. They are normally found in Florida but we have a good population of them now.

@@MphJunkie this is from the wildlife and fisheries website. The first recorded observance of limpkins in Louisiana was in 2017 in Lafourche Parish. Then in the spring of 2018, a pair nested successfully near Houma. Other pairs were noted in 2019 at Bayou Black in western Terrebonne Parish and in 2020 near Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge, also in Terrebonne Parish. To my knowledge they showed up naturally. There was a big deal made about them as bird watchers from all over come to Louisiana to see them. Here is the whole page LDWF has on them. www.wlf.louisiana.gov/news/limpkins-noted-for-eating-apple-snails-seen-in-louisiana#:~:text=The%20first%20recorded%20observance%20of,Refuge%2C%20also%20in%20Terrebonne%20Parish.

I always enjoy Cmac teaching us all about our environment and restoration efforts. I used to hunt and fish Dutch Bayou in the mid 70’s and we saw changes very quickly after the sand was pumped in for I-10 and blocked water movement except through the bayous. Water between I-10 and Airline Hwy seemed to stagnate and hyacinths choked off my best duck and deer habitat. My 2cents. 🤣

Finally, in my neck of the woods! Really beautiful place; I used to fish it a lot, but it just became less and less productive. Great info. Hopefully, the diversion will help it. Love your videos.

What a great video - lots of catching and LOTS of education on the ecosystem. Thanks for making C-MAC a focal point on this one as I have always learned so much from his wisdom - not to slight MMM's. Please keep them coming and thanks for sharing.

Sounds like an Osprey, they get vocal if you’re close to their nest. I’ve always called them fish eagle.

My family members have hunted and fished in this part of the blind river swamp area for atleast 100 yrs. It has definitely changed in my lifetime we need some fresh water diverted in this swamp or salt water will kill it completely

They wanted to put a diversion in lake Des Allemands but the local fishermen stopped it. We would have world class fishing if that was put in. We have been hearing that they might put one in. I hope they do and soon

I grew up fishing the Atchafalaya, out of Bayou Pigeon. We'd fish Bee Bayou, Lake Murphy and a 'Blue Hole' all the way at the end of Williams Canal. I heard those birds cry many a time, and I always called them 'pissed-off' birds...! God bless ALL of us! WWG1WGA

Pretty sure that creature making all the ruckus was a Rougarou. Other option would be the Louisiana Wookie. Definitely not a Bigfoot or Mothman.
