Just like it was yesterday (1964) lol, I can remember sitting in the FOX Theatre, Downtown Detroit watching the MOTOWN REVIEW. I was the the tag along little sister lol I saw them all.. from the Miracles, The Temptations, Little Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, The Marvelettes and the list goes on. The complete MOTOWN family of Stars. One of the most cherished memories of my childhood

Linda Schaffer. Cherished memories indeed. I have beautiful memories just having been a kid growing up listening to the music we love from that era. Surely having been there in person seeing all those “celebrities “ was special indeed!

After leaving for LA in 1959 I returned to Detroit 4 years later in 1963. I was at a house party when I first heard "Come and get these memories" and I have been a Martha Reeves and The Vandellas fan ever since.

@@Nomad-vv1gk absolutely. Martha and the Vandellas were better. Dianna Ross was the weakest singer of her trio but she had a more appealing look to white audiences

Spring of '63, I believe. Broke up with my boyfriend and this song said everything I was feeling, and put Martha and the Vandellas on the radio for us to enjoy.

Early 60s, a most wonderful experience of life. So happy to be alive and tuned in. I was 13 in 63. Every song was billboard material. Genius was pouring through these songwriters, and the singers delivered shear joy with melodies, vocals, the tempos, that helped you to feel, laugh, cry, dance, love, create.........................M and the Vs delivered very well. They captured our hearts. We sang right along with them. We were all moved when the girls sang. Thank you , girls. And Good Job❤

It'd be great if all big cities were to have at least a couple of huge dance clubs, where they switch it up -- playing different genres different weeknights. They could vary the nights too; e.g., on Motown nights, focus on early Motown one night & later Motown on another. They would be playing to fans of different popular genres & time periods. They could do the same with rock, disco, R&B, Soul, Alternative, 50's music, all the way up to the present. It seems that with enough advertisements, and adjustments made along the way, there would be great potential!

This was the second release on the Gordy Records imprint and the first hit song written and produced by the songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. H-D-H in 1964 would concentrate mainly on The Supremes and The Four Tops.
@mclff69264 жыл бұрын
Holland-Dozier-Holland were modern day Shakespeares. Detroit, Stratford-on-Avon. All three men are alive in their late 70s or early 80s. Long may they thrive. I would love to read a book about their early life and inspirations. But maybe I better just enjoy the music that they speak through.
