This pianist is so powerful and amazing. What amazes me is that she plays a full concert like if she was drinking a coffee. It is so easy and natural for her, and those hands, a wonderful flexibility. Age is really just a number for some beautiful minds. I hope she stays strong and healthy for as long as possible because she is with no doubts the best pianist alive.

And she's been playing this concerto since 1949, when she was only 8 years old! (She also played the Mozart d-minor concerto at that time)

From being a consummate virtuoso in her youth (and that is no small thing), Ms. Argerich has matured, through experience and perhaps her personal traumas, into an elder stateswoman of music. It is said that she prefers not to play solo, rather with other musicians, as in this concerto. She has also played a lot more Beethoven recently, and played it magnificently. -- All this is to say that she remains one of my absolute favorite pianists, and this is a great, great performance. :)

+John Rasmussen And above all that, she has always been a very tastefull pianist, choosing pieces to perform that she knows she can do really well. There is a reason she never has performed Beethovens 4:th Concert, and that reason is Claudio Arrau. It is said that after attending a performance of him playing that concerto, she was asked why she doesn't. Responding that " What's the meaning of that, I could never play this concerto so well as Maestro Arrau, no one of us will ever bee able to do that" Well I totally agree on that one, but she is really good in concerto no 1 and 2, bringing an awesome clarity to them

+Carlos Francisco Lijoi Cárcano To whom are you reffering? Martha or Maestro Arrau? Martha is a splendid romantic player, especially in Schumann and Chopin. Her Beethoven is just getting better and better.And yes there are performers who has made really good Beethoven 4. Uchida and Grimaud, for exampel. But still, there is something divine and unreachable in all Arraus playing, no matter wich Composer he performs. He is just not one of the best romantic players, he is most likely the greatest of his time.

I didn't think Argerich was compatible with Beethoven...until I heard 9:00 - 10:15 . She adds a whole a new dimension to this passage that makes me rethink so much of what I thought I knew about Beethoven.

If you wish to hear a fantastic performance of Beethoven's concerti try to find the cds of Solomon Curtner mostly known to the audience as Solomon (1902-1988). He gave for the BBC the full performance of Beethoven's sonata and was recording them in 1956 when a devastating stroke paralyzed his right arm putting an end to his career . With Arthur Schnabel at that time he was considered as the best Beethoven interpreter. A complete recording of the concertos was published by EMI in Germany under the reference CDF 300. 004 2 in three cds with a bonus of his interpretation Beethoven Sonata n°8 Pathétique. the concertos are performed the Philharmonia orchestra of London either conducted by Herbert Menges or André Cluytens. The recordings were made in the early and mid 50s. Some in stereo.

R. M. Earles Actually it's after the pathetic sonata which is the op13, this is the op15, I am kind of confused by the fact the op13 has more of the Beethoven style whereas this concerto has the style of Mozart....

@davidetirro9315 Жыл бұрын
@@user-mi2wi4rf7m Well, I see your point, but let's not forget that op.15 was mostly written in 1795 and I wouldn't be surprised to find that B had had it in mind for quite some time earlier than that

Lovely as this is - & this is not a criticism - a finer version exists on period instruments conducted by Frans Bruggen with the Orchestra of the 18th Century, with the fortepiano played by..........Martha Argerich. Very few pianists could produce two stunning performances using the different styles of playing necessary. Wonderful & thanks for posting.
