My Babcia died when I was 10 and we were in Germany at the time. My father made it to Chester, Pa. just in time, it's like she waited just for him. I did learn from my Aunt's how to make Babka & Polish Christmas pastry. Christmas Eve was spent with the Aunt's frying fish & making Pierogi (No Meat) during Christmas. We all met in my Babcia's house that my Uncle now lived in. By this time I was a teenager. I learned Polish, German & French cooking. My time learning to cook with family are my best memories.

I always enjoy segments with Mrs. Kostyra. Also being an American with Polish heritage, it's neat to learn a little about it from them. I like how Martha is wearing jewelry in Martha Bakes...she wore little jewelry when she taped From Martha's Home, From Martha's Kitchen, From Martha's Garden, so it's nice to see her wear some pretty jewelry. It does no one any good hiding in a box, jewelry is meant to be worn and enjoyed.

I just watched a show you made with your mom making pierogies. I remember seeing that show so many years ago. I would love to see you bring back many of those wonderful shows back in the 80’s- 90’s! They were not only educational, but always a soothing part of my day. Thanks for the memories!

My grandma, my mom and I we all use Martha’s recipes. When I bake something it makes me feel connected to my family because I can imagine how they’ve made this recipe hundreds of times or I’m reminded of the last time we enjoyed something together. It’s interesting to see Martha the daughter, who is probably one of the most precise cooks I’ve ever seen, working alongside Martha the mom who shows us how to make a cake with “ about four cups of flour “ and that it the measurement of the lemon & orange rind doesn’t need to be exact. I suddenly remembered my grandmother’s recipe for flour tortillas which began with “ half a canister of flour “ 🥰

My grandma has this great cake recipe that I wanted to write down and preserve. So, I sat down in the kitchen with her, pad and pencil in hand, and asked her to please bake the cake. She started out dumping flour in a bowl and I asked her how much flour that is so I can write it down. Her answer, I don’t know? I always do it by eye. Next came two eggs and milk. How much milk you ask? I never found that out either, she does everything by eye 😂 I guess with 90 years experience you don’t need recipes, you just KNOW ❤️

Happy Mother's day Martha. I miss watching your show on TV but so glad I can watch you here. My mother was considered the Martha Stewart of the quaint little town where we grew up. She eventually had a B&B on the lake... Hence it's name, Bittersweet on the Lake. This will be my second Mother's day with her gone.
