Martin was the first commentator (that I know of) who spotted Max's incredible talent from the get go. I think that Martin has a soft spot for Max (as a driver) and Max has a soft spot for Martin, as a commentator. I think they have had a very good relationship and respect throughout the years, so I am am not surprised that Max stopped and had a chat with Martin. That Martin came out, afterward with his opinion about Max, just shows the admiration he has for Max as an F1 driver, and as a person to talk to. The fact that he has to apologise in advance for his opinion, says a lot about the British F1 fan base that he, as a Sky Sports reporter, has to "please". I like Martin Brundle a lot, so thank you for giving us this video.

It was Martin who spoke highly of Max right from the beginning in 2015. Takes one to know one.

I'm so happy the whole narrative about Verstappen has changed at Sky... they used to show him little respect and were always criticizing him because he made life difficult for their golden boy, the past two seasons they have been nothing but praise when it comes to Verstappen.

What Martin really means is this 'I like the guy, but most Brits hate him. So that's why I will say that I like the guy and quickly add that some people think different and that is also OK'. You would almost think he's the presenter of a British TV station. To the British reading this: Sky Sports F1 is incredibly biased. But that's OK. So are all the channels when it comes to sportsmen of their country.

I was lucky enough to be in Spa this year. Well the weather wasn’t great but in general F1 is always fantastic. What caught me by surprise, and I’m Dutch, was the large amount of British supporters for Max. I’ve been critical of British media and British fans in general of how they portray and react to Max. It was quite a surprise to see how many British fans there were supporting him. All the fan gear. Brundle is just stating his opinion and good on him. Max Verstappen, love him or loathe him, is an F1 phenomenon. He’s the absolute face of the current F1 era. If there’s one thing that stands out with him is his straightforward attitude. What you see is what you get. He’ll never go down as a person trying to be someone he’s not. Max will always be Max. Just one of the best drivers to have ever graced the sport.

Really SICK and TIRED of all the haters: Max is a great driver and so is Lewis and so are many many more. Just focus on the NOW: Look what's happening now...Take Max out of the equation and you have the most diverse podiums I have ever seen. Is the RB19 good? Of course. Is it great? No, or else Sergio Perez would end up on the podium every single time. So PLEASE stop the hate and enjoy F1: A sports of excellence from teams, engineers and drivers.

Yes! Verstappen is Dutch. He is direct but honest. Two things we value the most in The Netherlands. It might sound brutal or rude for other countries sometimes, but this is the Dutch way of communication.

IMO Martin is one of the most honest analysts in the sport. He is one of the only brits who, imo, doesn't have a slant towards his compatriots... Unlike the rest of Sky sports and the majority of F1 as a whole...

This is indeed honesty. During the year, commenting on races and such, it's easy to be harsher than you mean sometimes or go a bit overboard with praise. But if you claim that someone is the driver you'd have a beer with, because they're the most interesting and honest... that's not a lie. Good on ya Martin.

I always respected brundle as a driver and as a commentator... Maybe a little biased sometimes but most of the time spot on... And very interesting to listen to... Altough i dont like crofty i change my f1tv commentating on sky because of brundle and his insights...

Honesty is honestly hugely underrated, and the people that recognize its value are also very frequently fond of Max. And only when you've dealt with immense dishonest people will you know. Even for something small as drinking a beer with someone it's just that important. And Martin himself is also someone who isn't afraid to speak his mind, and has a pretty good record of calling things through all his experience.

I know we Brits have a bad reputation amongst the rest of the world when it comes to Max, but honestly, I totally agree with Martin. Verstappen and Alonso are my favourite drivers because they're total racers who don't virtue signal about the planet, veganism etc like Hamilton does. I'd love to see them battle each other in the same team or even in different teams but a 2 way fight for the championship.

I kind of agree with him. Haven't been a max fan during his career, but the more he matures, the more I love hearing what he says. He tells it like it is, and now he usually does it with some wittiness and humor, earlier in his career I guess it came across differently to me. I'm not a red bull fan, but Max's personality is making him one of my favorite drivers. Being booed in Austin 'well I hope they all go home and have a lovely dinner' 😂😂😂 (or something to that effect)

I dont hate max...or lewis...i find the fanboys of each to be the annoying ones..they are both exceptionally talent'd and will both be remember'd as titans of the sport. Just like schumi just like senna just like Prost,mansell,fangio,stewart the list goes on. they both make mistakes (all be it rarely) they both are the 2 drivers you would hate to have as team mates.

I am a huge fan of Max, not only because I am half-Dutch but also because I love it when someone challenges the dominance in a sport. If I had a choice though, to grab a beer with Martin or Max, I'd choose Martin without hesitation. This is one of the few times we hear what he actually thinks, and there's so much more where that came from.

Max had fixed everything I disliked about his actions by the winter 2021/2022. Fully happy with his in-car and out-of-car behaviour in 2022-2023.

Our language is functional not elegant. This made us direct in conversation some use it as an excuse to be rude.

Extremely impressive from Max, attitude and also his genuineness in answering the questions. Lando similar recently too. In fact, I think most drivers are like that with Martin B, it's just that compared to 20-25 years ago it's so hard to get access to the drivers on the grid walk.

I don't quite get all the hate on Brundle for this one? Is he suppose to be a Hamilton fan....rooting for Norris....or just be being against Max...or what's the deal here ?? When i watch this video i get him talking to Max about todays GP And after that he goes on to say that he likes Max for being honest and easy to interview because he's straight forward in answers making Brundles job easier. Then he says something about understanding that Max might not be the popular one in the UK (i'm thinking 2021 and the crown steal here maybe). And then how wounderful it is that he can have his opinion on the matter and others can have theirs. What am i missing to understand why so many comments are hating on Brundle.... Normally i get it when people come crashing down on Damon Hill. He always seems very displeased when Max or RB does good and he has to talk about it. That is some funny shit to watch when you know this before he opens his mouth.....he is 100% NOT a Max or RedBull fan !!!! But still even he is entitled to his opinion.

I love honesty period. And when it happens with athletes I gravitate towards them. I mean sure he gets pissed on the radio (not really much in the past few years) but they all do. They are all driving on their absolute edge and want to win. I’ve never thought anything bad about Max. They all interview well, and to be one of only 20 F1 drivers in the world they can act however they want!

I hate seeing max winning all the time but you can't argue with the absolute domination. And seems like a nice bloke too, just competitive

I like Brundle as an interviewer, more than I like Verstappen's answers, usually. Brundle has an unfortunate job of grid-interviewing, which seldom has good content.... but his knowledge, and also a co-commentator at Sky , is perfect enough. I hope they keep him on.

I like Brundle. Best F1 commentator. Also very honest always and doesn't sugar coat things when he sees them. And yes I'm Dutch. I don't hate the British. I find them rather amusing :)
