Sounds awesome. I love that it’s almost the same as a D45 except for the bling and the neck finish. I once picked one up in a music store, played one chord and put it back. I would have been in deep trouble trying to take it home. You play it very well.

I own a 2003 Martin D-41. I also own a 1917 Martin 1350 koa (like a D-18), a 1921 Martin Style A Mandolin and a stunning Martin show guitar, a 2005 Figured Koa Special (#25 of only 25 made). These instruments sound even better as they age.

An amazing demonstration and such a beautiful instrument.. I had the good fortune to receive a sum of back pay for my disability and found an awesome deal on a D41 reimagine series. It will be my first guitar, i can' imagine anythine that will give me more incentive to continue my study then this beautiful guitar. Nicely presented with chording, fingerstyle and lead. Sweet sample with a strikingly nice sounding guitar. I could tell you enjoyed playing it a bunch.

Rumor has it the cedar kerfing are what gives Martins that amazing smell!! You're the best Jon!

The D-41's one of Martin's most sought after instruments of all time. The list of players who've used it over the years is too long to mention. It helped define the sound of a generation.

@Ross G Off the top of my head, George Jones favored a D-41 at some point following their introduction in 1969. Steve Miller and John Mayer are known to play D-41s. Also, that guy from Greenday plays one, and the dude from The Sundays. Since this model came out in ‘69 and is kind-of flashy and high-end, I don’t imagine we will see some long, distinguished list of artists who have played or are playing them, as we would with a D-18, D-28, D-35, or the classic Gibson flattop models.

Stunning!! These D41's definitely stand alone in sound to me. At this price point I prefer this model over the 45's and such because they have too much bling for me.

Gorgeous instrument there, Jon. I really like the tone one gets from a rosewood body. Great performance, as well - cheers! P.S. I have to put my nose up to my 20 year old Martin, but that wonderful aroma is still there! 👌😊

Jon, another awesome video. Like you, I own the D-35. It is less bling but all the tone and playability of it's more expensive brethren. I have always liked the 3 piece back on the D-35 and price is comparable to a D-28. I also like the strong bass response of the D-35 but it still has a nice crisp and resonant higher range. As you state early on in the video, all guitars sound different even if they look alike or similar from same maker. When I bought my D-35 there were also 2 D-28s to choose from. They sounded so close I couldn't really hear much difference. I went for the 3 piece back because I love its looks.

the aroma which you smell comes actually from the ceder line ribbon which is placed around the inner body to help glue the sides to the top!

I have the exact same guitar. I love the sound of it. There's a different sound to these guitars over standard Martins. More overtones and shimmer. Could the abalone be the reason?

Yeah, I don’t get it. I own and have owned several Martins over the years. All of the 40 series guitars I’ve tried, even ones from the 70’s have that shimmer. Not just this year. It may not be as crazy as it sounds. Having hard edges surrounding the soundboard may actually affect the sound, I know it sounds crazy. But you’ve played that guitar, you must know what I’m talking about. Play it next to a D-28. Something is different, and most 40 series have it. Personally, I wasn’t crazy about the bling, but when I played the guitar, I had to buy it. It sounded very different than my other Martins. It’s still my favorite sound wise.

Yep, the prettiest Martin yet, and yes it’s too nice to gig. I would have thought it’s closer to a D28 in its construction as far as sound goes? Have you tried the HD Martins, you should try them too. I’m torn between them at the moment, the HD,s have scalloped bracing as you well know. One person who demoed both the standard D,s to the HD’s is that the D’s have a better dynamic range, or in other words you can control them better, so for an experienced or good player I’m thinking the D would be better for, me, owing to playing for 45 years now and finally playing a lot softer, or just getting the best out of any given composition knowing when to change the dynamics. So the good news Jonathan is the the D35 was made for you. Bless you, you are doing so many video’s - keep it up!

Thanks Denis.. that fellow was right. I did try the HDs.. wasn’t too impressed with the dynamics.. didn’t turn me on like how the D35 does ✌️❤️

Jonathan Koh So good to know this, D35 still top of the list, as it’s always been for me. I will get one, one day. My daughter just got engaged and already looking at venues, so I’d better be careful with cash for the moment. I’m still going to buy a guitar though, I think I’ll go for the HB fusion II, they do them left handed - that guitar looks amazing value for money.

@@JonIsJustTooLoudwhat guitar is best suit to play fingerpicking? the Martin D35 or the Martin D41? where I live I can only choose between a Martin D16, D18, D28, D35, and D41. I played the D16, D18, and D28, and I found their sound low, great for strumming but not to play fingerpicking.

This D41 is a master piece if luthery. But my ears still prefers my D35. This D41 seems less balanced with more highs and less lows. As usual your play is really emotional, the start piece makes me think of Wheels within wheels from Rory Gallagher, with that delicate finger picking.
